CHAPTER 4 & 5

Summary of Results

The primary objective of this study is to identify what are the impacts of the

resumption of face-to-face classes to a student from 11th Grade in OLFU-Antipolo

Campus. The researchers manage to take about 15 respondents from Our Lady of Fatima

University in Antipolo to the Grade 11 Senior High school students and conduct an

interview to support the researcher’s study. With this in the line an amount of 7 Female

and 8 male consisting a total of 15 respondents. The research study was held from the

starting of the third quarter to the fourth quarter of the 2022-2023 academic year, which

is from February up until May. The research utilized phenomenology as a research

method for it fits in the needs of the qualitative research, interviews were used as a data

gathering tool and analyzed the data through Cool and Warm Analysis.

This are the findings in the themes.

4.1 Students worry about the limited face-to-face classes.

Many students worried about their security and social stability as the limited face-to-

face classes resumed. The most common situation of conflict reported by the participants

in the study was the pressure to socialize and not being confident enough about their

security. One of the participants stated that they are worried about their security because

their house is far away, and some are still worried about COVID 19. Another participant

stated that they got used to their house, so when they came face-to-face, they didn’t know

how to socialize anymore. However, some of the participants are not worried about their

security because they are used to it, and others are complacent because their parents pick

them up. Some of the participants stated that they are not under pressure to socialize

because their classmates are friendly, and one participant is an extrovert.

“No, because I’m extrovert.” - Florendo

According to education (2022), Humans are social creatures and for a very good

reason. Socializing makes us feel a sense of belonging and security which increases our

overall mental wellbeing. Face-to-Face learning gives individuals the opportunity to enter

a classroom with other students and have that social interaction. Studying from home for

some people means sitting in a house on their own which can be detrimental for their

mental health.

4.2. The student’s behavior.

When the limited face-to-face classes began after the online class, the students’

behavior was greatly affected, and they were still renewing in their environment. One of

the participant stated that she become more self-independent while some of the

participant become more friendly.

However, one of the participant stated that she loss self confidence in answering unlike

before. Some of the participant have been used in online class.

High self-confidence can have a significant impact on academic performance by

motivating individuals to work hard, bounce back from challenges, manage their time

effectively, and build positive social interactions.

According to Normative social influence, a student may alter his or her behavior to

match that of other students in a class. The majority-held opinions of a group of friends

are likely to inform the views of new members to that social group. We are influenced by

the requests of people who are seen as holding positions of authority.

4.3 Student’s challenges and adaptive solutions.

When the limited face-to-face classes resumed, the most common situation of conflict

reported by the participants and respondents in this study was the difficulty of

commuting. One of the participants reported that the conflict he encounters is the heavy

traffic. In view of the fact that it is difficult to board during rush hour and there are many

other passengers at the same time, there are students, and the other people are also going

to their work places.

According to Avaz (2013) When it comes to academic performance, commuter life

can either make or break you. It challenges you to plan your course schedule around your

transportation just so you can make it on campus with only minutes to spare before class

starts. Commuting is ultimately like adding another class to your busy schedule that you

put a bunch of work into it without getting any credit. If it is not a requirement, then

avoid registering for it.

The most common coping strategies reported by the participants of the study was

adjusting in the new system. One of the participants said that try to adjust and force his

self to be used to.

“Uh, I just try to adjust myself to these new things that I have encountered and try to

force myself to be used to.”– Cruz

One of the participant also said that he adjust since pandemic is already over

“kailangan ko na talagang mag-adjust since okay na yung pandemic.” (i really need to

adjust since pandemic is already over.)”– Reyes

RECOMMENDATION

A.Y. 2021-2022

This study shows the grade eleven students’ different perceptions about the

resumption of limited face-to-face classes in Our Lady of Fatima University Antipolo

Campus. The researchers’ primary conclusions are discussed below.

Through the help of the previous interviews, the researchers come up with all of these

recommendations on how to deal with the impact of resumption limited face to face

classes that affects the Grade 11 students of Our Lady of Fatima University -Antipolo.

•The first recommendation is for the students as well as the teachers. Both must learn

how to adapt changes since we are all still making ourselves getting used to this rapid

changes in our education system.

•For the second one, learn to save up financially. Based on the interview, one of the

problems mostly of the students face is that they don’t have enough money to sustain

their needs for schooling especially the transportation fee.

•Next recommendation is to socialize during face to face classes as it was limited and it is

more effective rather than whole modular classes. Since some of the students do not

assess high self-esteem or enough self-confidence to communicate with their co-students.

•Fourth is don’t be affected to all the hindrances in your schooling. Have time on finding

out the best mechanism in coping and dealing with all of your problems while studying.

•Last is be interested in studying whether it is face to face or modular classes. Think

carefully how lucky you are because not everyone has a chance to go to school and study.

CONCLUSIONS

There is a significant change in students’ behavior due to the resumption of limited

face-to-face classes based on the result of the interview that the researchers conducted.

The effects may be positive or negative, a portion of respondents said that it helped them

be more sociable and practice independency, but to some, it greatly affected their

confidence to participate academically in class.

The traffic density in our country is very high, resulting in a low level of adaptability

of a student in class due to the wasted time in commuting. To add to that, it also

challenges the capability of a student to balance their time and attain their goals. On the

other hand, some are adaptable and have already overcome the changes resulting in better

academic performance and being confident enough to participate in class discussions.

Having a knowledge in adopting changes is the key to prevent a major impact of it

throughout the different aspects of life of every students as well as to the teachers and

other school administrator. We should make a way on how to cope up with the fear and

anxiety of changes. Moreover, parents must monitor their children whether they are at

school or they are having their online classes so that they will know and well-informed

on how does this kind of studying affects them. Most importantly, the results of having a

resumption of face to face classes must be reported instantly without delay. This can

prevent further incidents from taking place and to avoid to turn it into a serious problem

if not controlled.

As a student, we should learn to be more aware of our sensitivity so that we will know

how this limited face to face classes affects us in a negative and positive ways. To

overcome the challenges in the resumption of limited face-to-face classes, students

should be adaptable and resilient to all adversity. This will also help us to bring back the

active lifestyle and socializations to other people.
