Moro's Material Culture

Identify five (5) examples of material culture of Moros as presented in the documentary
and explain their significance to the Moro population.

Material Culture of Moros Significance to the Population


1) Garay A native or traditional warship of the
Philippines. Used by the Banguingui
people for piracy against trading ships
along the Sulu sea.
2) Moro Kris The most common sword used by the
warriors Samal, Tausug, and Yakan.
Known for its uniquely shaped blade, it
used for self-defense in close combat
battles.
3) Moro Barong A short sword capable of severing limbs
in one single swing. Used in battle by the
Tausug, Samal, and Yakan warriors.
4) Body Armor Multiple plated armor for protection
against slashes. Served as the protection
of warriors during battles.
5) Kampilan Single-edged sword capable of slashing
through multiple foes at once due to its
heavy weight. Has grooves indicating the
number of kills.
