Objectives:

The NNC explained that this theme highlights “the need to support efforts that will
enable Filipinos to have greater access to healthy, safe, and affordable food.” The agency
added that this year’s nutrition month serves as a call to action for policy-makers, program
managers, and legislators to act on the following issues:

1) Increase availability of nutritious foods such as by giving subsidies, product reformulation


and improved food value chains,

2) Reduce the availability of unhealthy food through taxation, restrictions on marketing and
consumer education,

3) Rechannel resources to agriculture to enable access to affordable nutritious and safe


food,

4) Implement the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023-2028 by scaling up food and
nutrition security interventions.

PART II: NARRATIVE REPORT

The national nutrition month is celebrated every July as stipulated in Presidential


Decree 491, which also mandated the creation of NNC in 1974. It must be noted that during
that time, then-President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. had both executive and legislative powers.

Late part of June, 2023 when the memorandum on the celebration of the annual
celebration of Nutrition month was handed down and the whole Technology and Livelihood
Education department spearheaded by its amiable department head Madam Luz N. Ramirez
called for an urgent meeting in line to this.

The meeting was held at the designated TLE faculty room attended by all its teachers and
immediately came up with the following courses of action:

1. There will be one (1) official entry from each TLE teacher regardless of how many
classes he/she is handling.
2. Each curriculum year is designated to prepare one dish as agreed upon:
a. Grade 7 participants will prepare Dinengdeng Dishes;
b. Grade 8 participants will prepare Fish Dishes;
c. Grade 9 participants will prepare native chicken dishes; and
d. Grade 10 participants will prepare native delicacies.
3. The criteria for judging is as follows:
Relevance to the theme (Economic Aspect) - - - - - - - - - - - - 30%
Creativity and Presentation (Aesthetic Aspect) - - - - - -- - - 30%
Nutritive value (Nutritional Value) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -30%

4. Expenses shall be incurred by the teacher/coach to avoid collection from students.
5. The cook fest shall take place at the TLE faculty room where the Grade 7 and 9 will
showcase their cooking prowess from 7:00 am -10:00 am while the Grade 8 and 10 will
manifest their cooking expertise from 1:00 pm-3:00 PM on July 7, 2023.
6. Judges will be those TLE teachers without entries to ensure the integrity of the results
with Madam Luz N. Ramirez as Chairman of the board of judges.

The spirit of festivities, camaraderie and healthy competition was evident during this
one (1) day school based- Nutrition month celebration. Due to overlapping of school
activities and the school year is about to end, this department chose to make the
competition as simple yet worthwhile experience most specially to the students.

There were 2-4 entries from each grade level coached by their respective TLE teachers.
Each entry was as competitive as the others while their teacher-coaches were very
supportive to their students most specially when the results are out as follows:

The entry from Grade 7 Jargon under the advisorship of Madam Lea Reyes, at the
same time their TLE teacher, merged as First placer with their Mixed Dinengdeng na Saluyot
(Jute), Okra (Ladies Finger), Labong (Bamboo Shoot), Talbos at Bunga ng Sitaw (Sting Beans
leaves and pods) cooked in isdang Bagoong (Fish paste) with alimagmag (dried Shrimp). The
ever-competitive Grade 8 Chrysanthemum under Mr. Ryan Eguia’s class with madam Cynthia

Divina’s tutelage merged the champion with their Fish ball made from Galunggong (Round
scad). The Halang-halang native Chicken dish prepared by The Grade 9 Krypton under
Madam Mary Virginette Venus Soriano bagged the top spot, and finally, the Ginataang Mais
with Munggo combined with the Blue Ternate tea prepared by the Grade 10 Cicero under
Mr. Frederick D. Gallardo as coach brought home the first place in the last event.
