PROJECT FOR EFL CLASSROOM II


Course Syllabus

1. General Information:

PROJECT FOR EFL CLASSROOM is a 2-level required course in the integrated


curriculum of Tyndale English Language Program for IBD students at the National
Economics University. This course focuses on building up and developing
integrated skills and strategies of doing research work that are useful for students
in their academic life as well as real life.

PROJECT II is the second part of PROJECT FOR EFL CLASSROOM. The course
is designed for the students who are at the upper-intermediate to advanced level of
English (Level 4 by TEG English Language Program ), being ready to start BTEC
HND courses in English.

2. Course Objectives:

- To strengthen the students’ basic research skills and get them practice those
skills;
- To strengthen and improve the students’ use of academic English;
- To prepare the students for academic requirements of BTEC HND program;
and
- To create among the students self-motivation toward research and love for
researching, thus contributing in promotion of scientific discoveries among the
young people.

3. Learning Outcomes :
By the end of this course, the students will be able to
- Identify interesting topics and problems potential for research;
- Employ suitable research methods and tools to conduct a research work
individually;
- Employ seminar skills to discuss/share issues, problems, opinions and ideas
while doing research.
- Employ presentation skills to present the research results in 15 minutes plus
Q&A session.
- Employ writing skills to write 2000 - 3000-word reports on their own research.

This course uses an integrated set of materials developed by the instructors in
charge. The set of materials include:
- a computer-based cluster of lessons for in-class use;
- photocopied materials for in-class use;

5. Methodology
This course applies communicative approach, specifically
- Gives interactive instructions to students on the basis of exchange ideas and
opinions in both forms of collective and individual coaching;
- Gives task-based assignments;
- Encourages students to raise initiatives which are interesting and close and
useful to the students’ real life;
- Integrates extra-curriculum activities such as seminars, forums, etc. ;

6. Assessment
Students’ performance in the course will be assessed on the following criteria:

1. Attendance 10 Attend 80% of classtime, actively join in class
and Progress activities, submit progress outcomes on time

2. Presentation 40 - Do research on a self-initiated topic within 7
weeks;
- Orally present the research results in 15 minutes;
- Successfully answer questions from the audience
about the research
3. Report 50 - Do research on a self-initiated topic within 7
weeks;
- Submit a 3000-4000 word report in APA style on
the research work (Week 8).
Total 100

Marking scale is 10/10


Note: The Total Score counts for 10% of the Final Grade of Level 4 according
to TEG English Program Assessment Policy.

7. Contents and Schedule


The course will last for 12 weeks from …… to ……. The class meets once a week
for 2 periods of 45 minutes. The content and schedule below will be adjusted
during the course if needed.
