1.Define Energy.
Ans-Energy is the capacity for doing work. It may exist in potential, kinetic,
thermal, electrical, chemical, nuclear, or other forms.SI unit of energy is Joule
(J).

2.Define Renewable energy. Give example.

Ans-Renewable energy is energy produced from sources like the sun and wind
that are naturally replenished and do not run out. Eg- solar energy, wind,
falling water, the heat of the earth (geothermal), plant materials (biomass),
waves, ocean currents.

3.What is a solar collector?

Ans- A solar collector is a device that collects and/or concentrates solar
radiation from the Sun. These devices are primarily used for active solar
heating and allow for the heating of water for personal use.

4.Sun is the Ultimate source of energy. Justify.

Ans- Sun is the source of almost all the energies in our earth. Plants make
food using sunlight, the food that we get from plants and animals also has its
prime source as sunlight. The fossil fuels that we use in our daily life comes
from dead plants and animals which again have their source as solar energy.

5. Differentiate between conventional and non-conventional Sources of

energy.
Ans- Conventional Sources
 Conventional sources of energy (e.g. coal, petroleum and natural gas) are non-
renewable sources of energy.
 They have been in use since a long time. For example, firewood and coal have been
in use since a long time.
 Most of these energy sources (e.g. coal and firewood) cause pollution when used.
 They are common and widely used sources (e.g. thermal power).
Non-conventional Sources
 Non-conventional sources of energy (e.g. solar and wind energy) are renewable
sources of energy.
 These sources have recently developed and are still developing. For example, the
technology of producing electricity from solar panels has recently developed.
 They do not cause any pollution (e.g. solar energy, geothermal energy etc.)
 They are comparatively new sources of energy and hence are not widely used. For
example, solar panels and wind mills are not widely used.

6.Discuss the advantages and disadvantages renewable energy sources.

Ans- Benefits of Renewable Energy
 Generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions from
fossil fuels and reduces some types of air pollution.
 Diversifying energy supply and reducing dependence on imported fuels.
Creating economic development and jobs in manufacturing,
installation.

Disadvantages of Renewable Energy

 Renewable Energy Is Not Available Round the Clock.
 The Efficiency of Renewable Technologies Is Low.
 The Initial Cost of Renewable Energy Is High.
 Renewable Energy Sites Require A Lot of Space.
 Renewable Energy Devices Need Recycling

7.Describe the Factors for site selection for solar power plant.
Ans- It includes conflicting criteria such as environmental conditions, social
acceptance, geographic location, economic cost, and proximity to major roads
and electricity networks.
