Elden Ring is the greatest video game of all time.

What would make a video game the best of all

time?

1. Good Gameplay
Good gameplay can be subjective, but some key elements are objectively important to master.
The difficulty, a lot of people aren’t fans of games that are too hard, which is understandable.
Many games will solve this problem by giving you a difficulty slider, which is a quick and easy
way to get the game to the player’s requested difficulty. But Elden Ring doesn’t do that. Elden
ring has no difficulty slider, which sounds like a problem at first. However, that doesn’t mean
there’s no way to make the game easier on yourself. Things like spirit summoning, a mechanic
which gives the player the ability to summon creatures to help fight against harder enemies
such as bosses, far-ranged magic that allows you to keep your distance from foes, a horse with
a double jump that you can ride anywhere that isn’t a building. All of these tools and more allow
for a better experience for players who aren’t really interested in as much of a challenge as the
game could be without them. Pacing, specifically in terms of gameplay, is important for one
reason you don’t want the player to get bored. When the pacing is too fast the player may be
overwhelmed by too many things happening at once and their engagement in the story is going
to plummet. Elden Ring is an open-world game, which means you can go mostly wherever you
want. Allowing the player to experience the perfect pacing for themselves. Finally, a low skill
floor & a high skill ceiling. A skill floor is the amount of effort it takes to be sufficiently good at
something, Elden Ring’s combat is not complicated, at its core, all you do is dodge and press
RB, but it is customizable. To this day, because of new updates and a very alive community,
people are still finding new ways to play this game. All of this results in the kind of gameplay
experience that a player can create for themselves.
2. Interesting Story
An interesting story can mean a lot of different things to everyone, but like gameplay, there are
fundamentals to worry about. Elden Ring has many very engaging characters, a lot of which you
meet right at the beginning of the game and with whom you grow and learn as you progress
more and more. All of them having side-quests with well-defined arcs and likable (or at least
interesting) personalities & motivations. Another great thing about the Non-Player-Characters is
that you can do whatever you want with them. Many of their quests are about helping them, but
some take turns and give you the option to aid their enemies instead. Some of them you can
even kill before their quest even starts. The world-building is probably my favorite part of the
game. Every step you take unlocks more & more of the story of this mysterious world which is a
great encouragement to explore more of the open world.
3. Technical performance
For some reason in this day and age, triple-A professional game developers are releasing more
and more unfinished games riddled with bugs and glitches, when Elden Ring came out in 2022,
it was an instant contender for Game of the Year along with other triple-A titles like A Plague
Tale: Requiem, Stray, and Horizon Forbidden West. all games with lackluster performance and
bug issues when they came out earlier that year. When Elden Ring came out, its performance
was unmatched by any other triple-a competitor.
