How To Crack The EY

Consulting Aptitude
Test
Context
EY (Ernst & Young), a celebrated 'Big 4'
professional services firm with a global
workforce of over 230,000 has a rigorous
selection process, with broadly 1 in 25
applicants securing a spot.
The process involves an initial online
application, followed by EY's online
aptitude tests, and successful candidates
proceed to a zoom interview with
guesstimates, case rounds, and
behavioural/fit questions.
Outline Of The Test
Once you've submitted your details, EY
sends an email with a link to access the EY
Strengths Portal, where you'll take the
online tests. Most roles involve four tests,
determining your suitability. Completing all
tests on the same day is recommended.
Feedback is given only after all four are
done, so prompt completion is advisable.
The situational judgment and business
behaviours tests offer insights into the
organization and assess how you handle
real-life work scenarios.
Test Process
EY values both speed and
accuracy in these tests, along
with genuine responses. Take
your time but avoid excessively
long responses and unanswered
questions as they can affect your
score.
Situational
Strengths Test
The first of EY's online tests is the
situational judgment test, which assesses
how candidates handle common workplace
scenarios. It usually comprises 16 text or
video questions, each presenting a
workplace situation to gauge your
response. Your answers are rated on a 1-5
scale, indicating how likely you are to take
a particular approach. This helps recruiters
assess your workplace problem-solving
skills and suitability for the role.
Situational
Strengths Test
These questions typically have
right and wrong answers, so
familiarity is advantageous,
particularly for graduates lacking
work experience. Recruiters aim to
determine if your approach aligns
with the job requirements.
EY Online Numerical
Reasoning Test
EY's online numerical reasoning test,
provided evaluates candidate’s suitability.
It features around 12 questions with a time
limit. Achieving a minimum score is crucial
to advance in the recruitment process. EY
may request an in-person test for identity
verification. The test involves interpreting
data from tables and charts, performing
quick math calculations, and practising is
essential due to its challenging nature,
especially regarding time constraints.
EY Verbal
Reasoning Test
The EY online verbal reasoning test,
required for specific roles, assesses
reading comprehension in written and
verbal contexts. It includes two
question types: one matches a
highlighted word with the closest
contextual option, while the other
evaluates the truth of statements
based on the text. Practising with online
examples enhances preparedness for
the test.
EY Business
Behaviours Test
The business behaviours test, another EY
online aptitude test, resembles the
situational judgment test but without
videos. Instead, you rank options to
indicate your responses in various
workplace scenarios.
This test doesn't require specific study or
preparation; it assesses how you handle
workplace situations to determine your
suitability for the role.
EY Personality Test
(or What’s Your Mindset
Questionnaire)
The EY online "What's Your Mindset"
questionnaire involves ranking different
descriptions based on how well they align
with your personality. It's crucial not to
choose answers you believe recruiters want,
as they look for consistency. Inconsistencies
can negatively impact your ranking. This test
assesses behavior and personality, and
there's no practice; staying composed in a
quiet environment is essential to read
answers accurately.
What are Recruiters
Looking For?
EY's recruitment process significantly
emphasises candidates' alignment with the
company's core values. These values
include energy and enthusiasm, which
reflect a willingness to learn and grow
within EY. Another key value is building
strong relationships characterized by
honesty and integrity. EY also values
individuals who courageously lead, as
large organizations like EY require
confident leaders who can take initiative.
Tips for Passing
the Online Tests
Effective preparation for EY's online tests,
including numerical and verbal reasoning,
involves extensive practice and minimizing
distractions. These assessments evaluate
not only your knowledge but also your
ability to perform under time pressure.
Success hinges on accurately answering
questions within the allotted time. If a
question poses difficulty, move on and
return later.
Tips for Passing
the Online Tests
In situational strength tests, align your
responses with company values, ensuring
that your genuine answers match the role's
suitability and values. Honesty is crucial as
the role should align with your preferences.
How To Clear The
Assessment
Step 1 - Understand EY Core Values
Successful candidates throughout the
recruitment process can showcase their
alignment with the company's core
values, which include Adaptability,
Creativity, Curiosity, Collaboration,
Growth Orientation, and Responsibility.
Provide examples from your experience,
whether in work or education, to illustrate
how you embody these values.
How To Clear The
Assessment
Step 2 - Take Practice Tests Online
By engaging in practice tests, boost your
confidence and preparedness for the actual
assessment. These simulations help you
become acquainted with test formats and
identify areas where you may need
improvement in competencies or aptitudes.
Practice tests provide insight into test
structures and content, aiding your overall
readiness.
How To Clear The
Assessment
Step 3 - Practise in Front of a Camera (Job
Simulation)
Mastering video interview questions within
the job simulation can be daunting,
particularly if you lack experience speaking
on camera. Ensure your audio and visual
setup is functional, and maintain a
professional appearance against a plain
backdrop. Practice answering questions in
front of the camera to establish eye contact
with the lens and enhance answer structure.
