Teaching ideas from 2/10/18 meeting

Reading

 Jigsaw reading: separate reading into two or three sections and give ss one each to
explain to classmate (jigsaw listenings a little harder but also possible)
 Running dictation: one person reads and dictates to their partner, who writes it down
 Scanning race: students race to find info from texts around the room
 News story: ss find out ‘how’, ‘when’, ‘where’, ‘who’ and ‘why’ then share
 Use authentic texts but grade the questions to be suitable for the level

Vocabulary

 Use magnetic letters on the board to brainstorm verbs


 Scattergories/stop the bus: ss race to think of words in different categories starting with
a particular letter
 Mime/charades
 Phrasal verb snap and make a sentence
 Double sided page with vocabulary that pairs have to test the person on the opposite
side, including spelling
 Soccer game activity to review vocab
 Mingle and have conversation with particular phrase, or challenge to use word/phrase
first in normal conversation
Pronunciation

 Tongue twisters
 Dr Seuss books
Speaking

 Students create surveys and interview people around the school then report back.
 Find someone who/Human bingo
 Roleplays
 Puzzle stories: students have to ask questions to find solution
Listening

 Songs with themes or grammar matching unit


Misc

 Memory pictures or spot the difference pictures


 Line up in a particular order, alphabetical, birthdate, distance from school..
 Bring in realia for various topics.
