Author’s note:

Please excuse the art. It’s not my best subject.

As I was writing this, my eyes were open. If these chapters didn’t impact you, drawing it
certainly impacted me. In school, we always talked about these topics. We always said how
horrible it was. However, as I weaved the York Race Riot into a graphic novel, I began to
imagine how these people felt. Getting 1 on 1 time with the topic made me feel how bad the
topic was. The perspective of Lillian seeing the events in a dream was supposed to
represent someone being shocked just being there. In a way, other perspectives
(especially of colored people back then) are also shown through dialogue and pictures.

Thank you for reading my project. I believe I could’ve done better, but it doesn’t stop me
from being proud of my writing as a writer. I hope this world realizes the damage hate
towards one another can do and how far people can take it. Still, many people can become
blind at times in all scenarios besides race, even me. I hope to keep working to open my
heart and eyes to everyone. May this world become a more loving and peaceful place, and
you have a great day.
