Assignment on various type of computer and their

uses in daily life activities

COMPUTER
*Stand for:
Common operation machine purposely used for technological and educational
research.

* Definition:
An electronic device for storing and Processing data typically in binary form according to
instructions given to it in a variable program.

CLASSIFICATION OF COMPUTER:
There are two major categories based on which computer can be classified
1)On the basis of size
2)On the basis of data handling capacity

*ON THE BASIS OF SIZE

There are four types of computer:
1)super computer
2)Mini computer
3)Main frame computer

1)SUPER COMPUTER

Definition:
A super computer is the fastest computer in the world that can process a significant amount of
data very quickly. The computing performance of a super computer is measured in FLOPS(that is
floating point operations per second )instead of MIPS. These computer are most massive
concerning size.A most power super computer can occupy few feet to hundred of feet. They have
evolved from grid to cluster system of massively parallel computing.

USED FOR:
1)Mathematical models
2)Nuclear weapons
3)Online gaming
4)Oil and gas exploration

2) MINICOMPUTER

A minicomputer is also known as mine.A minicomputer is a computer which has all the
features of a large size computer but it's size is smaller than those they are called mid range
computer.

USED FOR:
1)Business transaction process
2)File handling
3)Data base management
4)Scientific and engineering computations

3)MAINFRAME COMPUTER

Definition:
Mainframe computer means that a frame for handling a number of processors and main
memory.A mainframe computer is a combination of memory (RAM) and many processors. It act
as a central processing unit for many workstation and terminals connected with it.

USED FOR:
1)Hight storage capacity.
2)Process a huge amount of data very quickly.
3)Runs smoothly for long time and has a long life.

4) WORKSTATION:

Definition:
A workstation is a specialized singles user computer that typically has more and features than a
standard dektop PC.These machines are popular among scientists engineers and animators who
need a system with greater than average speed and the power to perform sophisticated
tasks.workstations often have large high resolution monitors and accelerated graphics handling
capacities.

USED FOR:
1)Banking
2)In vedio editing
3)Trading

*ON THE BASIS OF DATA HANDLING CAPACITY:

There are three types of computer
1) Analouge computer
2)Digital computer
3) Hybrid computer

1)ANALOGUE COMPUTER:
It is particularly designed to process Analouge data, continuous data that changes continuously
and cannot have discrete values is called analouge computer.

USED FOR :
1)It can directly accept the data from the measuring device.
2)It's measure the continuous changes in physical quantity

EXAMPLES:
Speedometer ,mercury, thermometer etc.

2)DIGITAL COMPUTER:

Digital computer are designed in such a way that it can easily perform and logical operations at
high speed.

USED FOR:
Storing data such as photos, music and documents .
3) HYBRID COMPUTER:

The word hybrid which means made by combining two different things .similarly the hybrid
computer is a combination of both analogue and digital computers.Hybrid computer are fast like
an analogue computer and have memory and accuracy like a digital computer.

USED FOR:
Ability to process and both continuous and discrete data.
