Sermon About Salt

What the Christian Is?

Key text: Matthew 5:13

[13]“You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it
salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it.

Salt is important resource in our daily uses preparing for making foods, manufacturing water, essential
for maintaining body fluid, killing bacteria. During the ancient Egypt time salt is not only use as food
making, as used today, but important resource in mummification process or preserving the
corpses(preservative). During the ancient time salt is not only important but a precious, means as
precious a jewels or precious as gold, the weight of salt are equivalent weight of gold, ancient Greeks
exchange their slaves for salt, Romans paid their soldier partly in salt, the word salary derived from latin
word "sal"means salt, originated during the roman empire, means its also in economic purpose.

It was happened back two thousand years ago when Jesus preaching at the mountain begins his
preaching after he chooses his disciples, the teaching of Jesus has a two parts begins with the
beatitudes followed teaching about the law that He did not come to this earth to abolish the law but to
obey it. First teaching of Jesus Christ about "beatitudes" it's concluded that "Ye are the salt of the
earth"( Some commentaries the verse 13 and verse 14 of chapter 5 of Matthews has it's intercorrelation
salt and the ligth ,will it's not contradict, but the verse 14 it's an opening statement of the Second part of
the teaching about the law of Moses[ the Ten Commandments], look at verse 17 " Do not think I came
to destroy the law...but to fulfill it", the Salt and the Light have the same value as an important during
the messianic time). Ye are the salt of the Earth, this statement of Jesus refers to the beatitude, in order
to be salt we need to live with the virtue of beatitude, Ye are the salt the words" Ye or You " It's not only
refers to the disciples but to those who want to followed Christ- the multitudes, by following the most
challenging teaching of Jesus. Salt mean to be a representative of God's Kingdom ( the message of
truth ),to bear the truth it makes us a precious ones, to live accordance to the teaching the beatitudes or
to live with attitude of beatitudes, people will admire us through us they can see Christ in our life. But to
we need to understand the meaning of the beatitudes. On verse three of chapter five it say's here
"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! The key
word here is spiritually poor, some time we feel that our spiritual aspect of our life, as a Christian, think
about this! After you feel this what you should do? Of course desiring to be spiritually rich, through this
we can asked the Father " Lord filled us with your holy spirit, so that we will rich in spirit again." knowing
that we are poor in spirit, we desire Christ in our life, for this reason we will not depart from God. Verse
four it say's their" Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!". Mourn
