ABSTRACT
New Deltas is an emerging relevant trend for the water management in Egypt. Areas in the
away from the Nile River are mainly made by sandy soils, that are not capable to prevent the
seepage of water, and requires canal lining. Given the lengths required and proposed as a
solution for future projects or extension of existing, chemical stabilization is a cost-effective
solution that meets the requirements for this application.
Particularly in the case of granular soils, and more specifically sands, a polymer developed by
the authors and their companies called HyGT-SS21® (SS21), is considered appopiate for this
application, as it is able to create a waterproof layer, giving strength improvements at the
same time. To prove the feasibility and performance, laboratory tests results are presented for
permeability and strength in sand with SS21.
