LCC: PLI BRIEFING SHEET

LCC: PUBLIC LAW I

FORMATIVE COURSEWORK

BRIEFING SHEET

OCTOBER 2023

Deadline for Submission of Coursework: by 23.59 on Friday 3

November 2023 (UK time)

Structure and Word Count

The Public Law I formative assessment takes the form of a coursework paper.

The coursework question/ task can be found on the Public Law I module Hub pages in the
“Formative Assessment (cohorts from Sept 2022 onwards)” folder. It will be released on
Monday 23 October at 9am and you can submit your paper at any time up until after 23.59 on
Friday 3 November.

The formative coursework paper must not exceed 1,500 words in length.

Referencing

As indicated on the question document itself, you are not required to provide extensive details
of the sources of information you reference, including quotes or full case citations, as part of
this formative exercise. A bibliography is also not required.

In order to support your arguments, you may wish to provide brief references and authority
points, where relevant, through the use of concise footnotes or within the main body of the
text. If you choose to use footnotes, they will not count towards the word limit as long as they
are confined to providing a reference to the source of information as opposed to being
substantive content or comment.

You can check on how to use footnotes using the Oscola system by consulting the library
information on the front page of the Law section: https://bpp.libguides.com/law

Submission method

You should submit your answer as one document.

Please submit this using the Turnitin link on the Hub. To access the link, go to:

Home/ My Learning/ Public Law I LFC/ Formative Assessment (cohorts from Sept 22
onwards) > Submission Link for PL1 formative

… and find the link for your submission date (3 November 2023). This will be available in
advance of the due date.

Please then go into the link to upload your coursework.

Click on the ‘Add File’ icon and attach your coursework and then press ‘submit’.

Please note that, when you upload your answer, Turnitin will provide you with a preview. This
preview will not show your original formatting. (However, the examiner will see your document
as you uploaded it with the original formatting.) Make sure you keep a copy of your work.

You may submit your coursework multiple times to the Turnitin link to check your referencing
and similarity with other sources. Resubmitting a paper is handled in an identical manner as
a first-time submission. On the first submission to Turnitin your originality report will be
generated quickly (sometimes within 15 minutes.) However, every subsequent submission will
take 24 hours to generate an Originality report.

Please note that it is the coursework on the system as at the time of the deadline which will
be marked. Each time you submit a different version, it will override any previous versions
you have uploaded. It is not possible to resubmit your work after the deadline.

IMPORTANT: Turnitin will ask you to provide a Title for your assignment.

Please enter your Student Registration Number (SRN) followed by a brief title.

For example: 'BP0123456, PL1 Formative’.

It is very important that you do this so that we can record results properly as the system will
be set to anonymise the coursework author.

Technical problems

In the event that you experience technical difficulties in submission, you should do the
following:

§ Take a screen shot of the Turnitin error (please click on Print Screen)
§ Email your coursework, along with a screen shot of the Turnitin error and submit
this to the following email inbox: PGDLSubmissions@bpp.com
§ Please make sure that you have added your SRN and the coursework name as your
email title (e.g., "BP0123456, PLI formative").
§ Please make sure that your submission has not been modified in any way after the
submission deadline. Once submitted to this email box, you should no longer attempt
to submit your work on Turnitin.
§ Once you have emailed the required evidence and your coursework, your email will
be dealt with as soon as possible. Please do not send multiple emails to this inbox or
to any other member of staff.

N.B. This method of submission must ONLY be used if you are experiencing
technical difficulties.
