What are the easiest topics in mechanical engineering to score the most on the
GATE?

The knowledge of easier topics of our Engineering branch for preparing exam like GATE
is very imp. As it helps a lot to make our daily time table (as now we can easily
distribute time to our subjects based on its toughness level ).

Also during preparation phase if we start through easier subject or topic then it will
boost our confidence and even the tough topics becomes Easier (Psychological fact).

Although easy or tough is a relative word and will depend on someone's ability to
understand things and on many other factors (but not for the every topics)

Based on my own experience (during my preparing phase and during teaching

students in college) and based on my close frnds experience i am giving the name of
Easiesr topics ( subject wise ) with their avg.weitage in GATE EXam.

A) Manufacturing [ 10 marks ]

. Tool life equation [ practice numericals]

. Orthogonal cutting [ see all the formulas and solve Gate numericals , same que. Are
repeated again and again.]

. Riser and Gate design [ For both theory and numericals]

.Numericals in welding [ No veriety in que]

. Non- traditional machining process [ For both theory and numerical ( of ECE
machining ) ]
. CNC programming [ for theory que.]

B) Thermodynamics [ 5 to 7 marks ]

. First and second laws of thermodynamics [ conceptual topic but by solving previous
year que it become Easier]

. Diesel , Auto and Dual cycle ( que. Are asked every time in GATE )

. Availability

C) Fluid Mechanics [5 to 7 marks]

. Pressure calculation in static fluid

. Buoyancy ,surface tension and capillary

. Fluid kinematics

. Bernoulis equation application ( venturimeter ,orifice meter etc)

. Flow through pipes ( conceptual topic, formulas are imp. And understanding of
Bernouli equ. Is imp )

. Specific speed of pump and turbine

D) Strength of Materials [ 8 to 10 marks ]

. Simple stress and strain ( avg.que)

. Thermal stress and Mohr's circle

. SFD and BMD ( conceptual que. Practice is needed)

. Bending and torsion ( Equation based que)

. Thin cylinder and columns ( Easy que.)

E) Theory of Machine [ 8 to 10 marks]

. Degree of freedom , Inversions of single and double slider crank mechanism

. Displacement and velocity analysis

. Gear train

. Flywheel and governors

. Vibration
F) Heat transfer [ 5 marks]

. Heat exchanger

. Conduction , convection

. Radiation

. Fins

. Unsteady state heat conduction

G) Industrial engineering [ 5 to 7 marks ]

. Linear programing problem

. Queying theory

. Inventory control

. EOQ Problems

. PERT - CPM

H) Engineering mechanics [ 4 marks ]

. Structural analysis

. Work and energy

. Law of Restitution

I) Material science [ 2 marks ]

. Effect of alloying elements

. Crystal defect

. Heat treatment

J ) Machine design [ 2 marks ]

. Design of static and dynamic loading

. Theory of failure

. Design of bearing

Each and Every topic of MATH are equally imp. and its a scoring subject , so we should
not leave MATH as it become Easier after revision.
So these are the topics of all subject of mechanical Engineering which are easy and will
help you to score the most.

Keep one thing in mind very clearly that every topic becomes Easier after solving que of
that topics and based on present competition level we have to study every topic with a
proper stretegy .

So keep working hard ,make good smart notes ,solve all previous year que. and keep
one thing in your mind that if you have work smartly nothing will stop you to get what
you want.

Smart notes of topic for easy revision.

Tough que. are tough for almost every one so we have to solve all easy que. Accurately.
Thanku ,I hope my ans will help you.
