The magic of south African Summer

The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to South Africa, for he has so much to
look forward to — Richard Mullin
South Africa, a marvelous country where you can view a landscape and believe you have
witnessed the hand of God. You can watch the slow lope of a lioness and forget to breathe. You
marvel at the tripod of a giraffe bent to water. There is no place quite like the country of South
Africa. From its magnificent mountains to its untamed oceans and its bustling cities, it
captivates with its sights, scents, sounds, and tastes. A magical place like no other.
During my family’s summer vacation last year we took a trip to Cape Town. Which had the most
beautiful beaches with crystal blue waters and soft white sand that was heavenly to walk on.
Cape Agulhas the place where two oceans meet was an intriguing sight to see. As this is the
place where the warm-water Agulhas current of the Indian Ocean meets the cold water
Benguela current of the Atlantic Ocean and turns back on itself. This sight showed the beauty of
nature.
The food in Cape Town was flavourful, not to mention their fist and chips which will send you to
paradise leaving the stressful world behind you
You have traditional African animals on your doorstep and some unconventional
ones too. Our day trip to Aquila Private Game Reserve was breathtaking, these
10,000 hectares are home to the Big Five – Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Leopards and
Buffalo which were previously on the brink of extinction due to game hunters. I
finally got a chance to experience Zebras at the Cape of Good Hope as well. Now
onto the unconventional African dweller, the penguin. Join the party at Boulders
Beach and prepare to melt from their cuteness but never really shift the confusion
of penguins in Africa.
As I hiked up Table Mountain l was blown away by the beauty of the view at the
top of the mountain. While experiencing the sunset at lion’s head I felt the magic
of a South African is in summer, as you feel like a bird leaving the nest, free from
worry and work.
My trip to Cape Town truly made me feel the magic of South African summers and I
look forward to exploring more of my wonderful country next year.
