Introduction Note
Current Cummins Electronic Tools do NOT support QSB, QSC, or QSL Marine & Industrial
Products. Specifically, INSITE 5.4, 6.2.1, and 6.3 will NOT communicate with a QSB/C/L
product. INSITE 6.3.1 will be the first service tool to support these products.

The only current solution to support these products in the field is to use Field Calterm III in
combination with the Diagnostic Manual. The purpose of the diagnostic manual is to provide the
missing link between Field Calterm III and INSITE 6.3.1. The manual contains information that
explains how to perform necessary service functions using Field Calterm III. The intent of using
Field Calterm III with the diagnostic manual is to give user the same functionality that will be
provided when INSITE 6.3.1 is available. Once INSITE 6.3.1 is available, neither Calterm III
nor the Diagnostic Package will be necessary.

The Diagnostic Manual includes a Table of Contents that can be used to find the location of the
needed information. Consider the INSITE function needed, for example monitoring, logging, or
reading fault codes, and locate that section in the table of contents.

Frequently Asked Questions …Table of Contents

1. Who do I contact for Calterm III support?
a. Tier 2 Technical Support Center Phone: (800) 433-9341
 Choose INSITE Technical Support, Option 2
 IMPORTANT NOTE: Mention Field Calterm III Issue
1. What is the meaning of GTIS 4.5 / Core 2?
a. GTIS 4.5 stands for Global Tool Interface Specification. GTIS 4.5 is a new software
architecture that requires a new method of communication between the ECM and the
electronic tools. This new specification causes current Calterm II and INSITE 6.2.1 &
INSITE 6.3 to not communicate with the ECM.
2. What are the first engine programs to use GTIS 4.5 / Core 2?
a. ISB, ISC, and ISL Marine and Industrial
3. Why is the INLINE 2 adapter necessary for the ISB, ISC, and ISL Marine programs?
a. The Core 2 engine programs do not support INLINE I 1708, therefore INLINE 2 1939 is
necessary for ECM communication.
4. Why is a new INLINE 2 firmware version necessary for the ISB, ISC, and ISL Marine programs?
a. INLINE 2 firmware version 9.28 or newer is needed for these engine programs. Changes
were made in the firmware that dramatically improves ECM communication and ECM
communication stability. Calterm III will check the INLINE 2 firmware version when
communication is established with the ECM. If the firmware version is not up to date,
Calterm III will not allow ECM communication to continue. Calterm III will display a
message box to the user if the firmware version is not sufficient.
5. Where can I find the custom parameter screen views?
a. Insert the Diagnostic Package CD-ROM and locate the Custom Parameter Views folder.

What To Do Before Making a Support Call

1. Reset the INLINE 2 Datalink Adapter
2. Cycle the INLINE 2 Datalink Adapter power
3. Reconnect to the ECM
4. Restart Calterm III and try the function again
5. Restart the computer and try the function again

If the problem persists, gather the following information to discuss with your Cummins support
representative:
 How the error or problem is generated
 The exact wording of any error messages
 The Calterm III version you are currently using. Open Calterm III and select Help
| About Calterm III from the menu

How to update INLINE II firmware

To update the INLINE II adapter's firmware, you need to use the INLINE II's "reflash" program.
First connect the INLINE II adapter to the serial port on a PC running Windows 98, NT, or XP.
If it is already connected, recycle the power to the adapter. Then download the latest firmware
using the reflash program. The instructions assume INSITE has been installed on the PC.

1. Select Start | All Programs | Intelect | INLINE Reflash

2. Select Setup from the Reflash32 dialog box.
3. Select the appropriate COM port and firmware file (firmware928.hex) on the System
Configuration dialog box. The firmware file is located on the diagnostic CD in the INLINE 2
Firmware directory. The firmware file can also be found on the FTP website.
4. Select Ok on the System Configuration dialog box
5. Click the "Reflash" button and follow the instructions to download the firmware into the
INLINE II.

Application Windows and Dialog Boxes

Modal Applications Modal applications are windows that shift the focus away from the Calterm
III window. The Help About window is an example of a modal application
window. Most applications and windows in Calterm III are primarily modal.
Modal applications must be completed or closed before focus can be shifted
back to the Calterm III window.

This diagram illustrates the Help About window.

Dialogs Boxes Dialog boxes are pop-up windows that do not permit the focus to be moved to
another window while remaining open. Dialog boxes may be moved, but
cannot be resized or minimized. Examples of dialog boxes include the
Product Selection dialog box, the Options dialog box, and the Calibration
Download dialog box.

This is an example of the Options dialog box.

Monitoring Parameters
Overview

Introduction Calterm III provides the capability to monitor calibration data. Monitoring is
achieved when the Calterm III tool is actively communicating with a single or
multiple Electronic Control Modules. After the communication to the module
session has begun, its Screen data, Product Information, Event Log and Faults
can be monitored from the Module Monitor window located inside the
Calterm III window. In addition to module monitoring, Calterm III supports
the editing of single parameter values, hex addresses and table array vectors
located within the Module Monitor window.

In This Chapter This table outlines the sections covered in this chapter.
