in Linear B
• In Linear B every sign represents an open syllable, which can be either a vowel on
its own (a, e, i, o, u) or a consonant followed by a vowel (ka, ti, po, etc).
• Divide your name up into syllables, e.g. A-ga-mem-non, He-len, Te-le-ma-chus
• Use the grid below to work out what sign to use for a syllable
• if a syllable or word has a final consonant, don’t write it
• Use Rs for Ls as well as Rs, and don’t write H
• Some signs can stand for several different values
• Write pa- for SPA-, write mo-no- for MNO-, write -ka for a final -X.
