Disks and Shelves

NetApp used to offer Fibre Channel disk shelves, with the controller
connected to the shelf through a Fibre Channel port and cable. The
Fibre Channel disk shelves have been EoL for some time.
The current models are SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) disk shelves, meaning
the controller connects to the shelf through a SAS port and cable.
NetApp offer 3 types of disks‐ SSD Solid State Drives, SAS HDD, and SATA
HDD Hard Disk Drives.
All 3 types of disks fit in SAS disk shelves.

SSD drives offer the best performance but the highest cost per GB of
storage.
SATA (High Capacity) drives offer the lowest performance but the
lowest cost per GB.
SAS (Performance) drives offer balanced performance and cost per GB.
