Telco Tray and Rail Kit Installation Instructions: Rack Adapter Kit Parts List
Telco Tray and Rail Kit Installation Instructions: Rack Adapter Kit Parts List
Instructions
These instructions describe how to install the following kits, included in the rail kit box:
◆ Two-post telco tray kit—The two-post telco tray kit consists of a split tray, where each half of the
tray attaches to the back of the equipment rack. This tray supports the back of the equipment in
either a mid-mount or flush-mount configuration.
◆ Mid-mount telco kit—The mid-mount telco kit must be used when you install your equipment in
the mid-mount position. This kit consists of a pair of brackets, star washers, and screws that attach
to the side of your DS14 disk shelf or storage appliance, enabling you to install your equipment in
a mid-mount configuration.
◆ Four-post rail kit—The four-post rail kit consists of a pair of rails with a lip that attaches to the
front and back posts of the rack. The rails support the entire length of the equipment and can be
adjusted to fit four-post equipment racks that are up to 32 inches deep.
WARNING
You must install each disk shelf or appliance with either the two-post telco tray kit or the four-post rail kit
that came in your shipment package. If you choose to mid-mount a disk shelf or appliance, use the mid-
mount brackets with the two-post telco tray kit. Do not ear-mount a disk shelf or appliance into a telco-type
rack; the equipment will collapse from the rack under its own weight.

1. Locate where you will install the telco tray on the two-post rack. Use the Rack Alignment tool to
make sure that you install the telco tray in the same holes on both posts of the rack.
2. Align the left-post screw holes on the two-post rack with the screw holes on the left half of the
telco tray, and then secure it to the post with two of the appropriate size and type mounting screws.
3. Repeat Step 1 and 2 for the right half of the telco tray.
4. Slide the disk shelf or appliance onto the telco tray and secure it to the two-post rack.
5. If desired, apply the ear covers or screw covers over the heads of the mounting screws by peeling
the adhesive strip from the back of the covers and applying one to each mounting flange or screw
head on your equipment.
6. Go to the Installation and Setup Instructions and complete the installation and setup of your
equipment.
Caution
If you are installing the equipment in a non-NetApp® system cabinet, you must calculate the thermal output
of your equipment and compare the results against the target system cabinet’s thermal rating. You might
need to remove the system cabinet doors to improve airflow through the system cabinet. See the Site
Requirements Guide and your system cabinet manufacturer’s guide for thermal rating information.
