FIRST LEVEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM

„MARITIME TRANSPORT”

Study program form: in accordance with the study schedule / opputunity to study remotely in the study
platform NOVIS
Study program duration: 3 years

Previous education:At least secondary/ vocational secondary/ vocational Maritime education

The main form of educational program are lectures, seminars and practical lessons, as well as
independent work.

Studies includes all necessary materials and many seafarer courses (course refresh is not
included):

1. First course:
1.1. Basic Safety Training Course (SOLAS);
1.2. Security Training for seafarers with designated security duties (SSD);
1.3. Survival Craft

2. Second course:
2.1. Radar Navigation, Radar Plotting and Use of ARPA at Operational Level.

3. Third course:
3.1. Bridge Resource Management;
3.2. Operational Use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems;
3.3. GMDSS General Operator;
3.4. Medical First Aid;
3.5. Advanced Fire Fighting

During their studies, students also go on sea practice. While at sea, the trainee must complete the sea
practice book and assignments in full.

Students who have successfully mastered the study program, obtained the required number of credit
points and passed other obligations from the study agreement, have the right to pass the State Examination.
At the end of the acquisition of the first level professional higher education programs, the State Examination
qualification examinations are taken, and after passing, the student receives an educational document. The
qualification examination examines the skills, theoretical knowledge, attitudes and competencies.
After graduating the Student gets the diploma of the first level professional higher education and the
qualification of “Officer in charge of navigational watch”.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission takes place throughout the year.


Documents must be submitted electronically by email to edu@novikontas.org or in person,
Duntes street 17A, Riga

Documents to be submited:
✓ Electronical application ANKETA

✓ Passport or Identity card;


✓ Certificate of previous aquired education(certificate / diploma) ;
✓ Transcript of Final Grades of previous aquired education;
✓ Centralized examination certificate in English with result at least B2 or IELTS certificate with
result at least 5.5, or “Marlins” English Language Test Certificate with at least 60% result;
✓ Seafarer`s Medical Certificate;
✓ One photo (3x4 cm).
Additional documents to be submitted (if have them):
✓ Seaman’s book, with the records of Sea Service;
✓ The Certificate of Proficiency;
✓ Other training certificates;
✓ Transcript of records from another higher education institution.

! If a person has obtained an Educational Certificate or Degree abroad, the application should include a
statement from the Academic Information Centre indicating that Education Document obtained abroad is
recognised in Latvia. Expenses related to the recognition of an Educational Document obtained abroad shall
be covered by the holder of the document.
