Strategies for preparing before university
• 1) learn to cook if you can't already.
Getting take aways too often is not
great for either your health or your
student budget ,and you'll probably
also miss the food you're used to eat
at home .so ask someone to show you
how to make your favorite dishes
chances are it will be easier than you
think don't fret if you're not a natural
cooker, as with practice makes perfect.
If you are an international student join an
orientation program
• Orientation programs are extremely
useful for helping you to settle in
when you're starting university in a
new country or a new city .if you're
staying in your home country
,nevertheless prepare your self for a
period of (positive)chaos in fresher's
week !make sure to get involved as
much a possible, this is often the time
when student make friend ships for
life ,but also don't forget that student
budget ,which brings us
to the next point.
Consider setting a student budget ....and try your
best to stick to it
• Obviously you shouldn't stress about
money too much ,as you don't want to
ruin your education and enjoyment
but it's definitely a good idea to work
out how much you have to spend on
food and rent and how much is left for
your own leisure .be careful not to
spend too much on socializing in your
first week or so -remember ,there are
lots of ways to have fun without
breaking the bank .here are five ways
to stretch your student budget.
Strategies for preparing during university
• Find people who can answer any questions
you have if there are any open days being
organized by your university before term,
these will be an opportunity to ask questions
about your degree and the teaching in
person. If this isn’t something you’re able to
do, you can always email the university
instead, asking for information on what topics
you’ll be studying and how they would
like you to prepare.
• It’s also a good idea to find the university's
page on The Student Room or other online
forums, as older students should be able to
answer your questions and inform you about
their own experiences.
See if you can get hold of the reading lists already
• I emailed my lecturers before term
started and was able to get one of them
to send me a copy of the reading lists for
the upcoming term. If your university
doesn’t provide these in advance already,
I’d highly recommend doing this. It meant
I could get a lot of the books I needed
second-hand before other students
bought them all, which saved me money.
It also helps you get an idea of what the
workload will be like for the year . When
it comes to reading through your new
books, start with the longer or more
complex books. They might look scary,
but getting them started while you have
time to work gradually will make them
much easier to complete in the long run.
