MRT Jakarta announced on Tuesday that they would extend the operational hours by one hour from 11
p.m. to 12 a.m. effective immediately. Operational hours start at 5 a.m. on weekdays and at 6 a.m. on
weekends. In a press release, city-owned transportation company PT MRT Jakarta said the extension
was part of the Jakarta Transportation Agency’s instruction in response to the lowest level of public
activity restrictions (PPKM) measures set by the government until Nov. 21. “While in the station and on
the train, commuters must still follow the prevailing COVID-19 protocols, including wearing the
appropriate face coverings and maintaining distance from other passengers,” the company said.
Train scheduling remains the same with 10 minutes between trains except during rush hour from 7 a.m.
to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays where there is only a 5-minute wait time between
trains. But, MRT Jakarta emphasized that the operating hours dictated when the last train was set to
arrive at the last station, not when the last train departed. As of now, the last train from the Hotel
Indonesia (HI) traffic circle station departs at 11:31 p.m. and from Lebak Bulus station at 11:12 p.m.

Alyssa Diva Mustika, a student from Pamekasan Junior High School, East Java, won the
gold medal at the International Mathematics Contest held in Romania between March 22
to 29, Antara news agency reported.
Speaking to journalists, Diva said she was glad that she had been able to win the
competition, which she said had been very tight. “Thank God I won. I will study harder,”
she said.
Indonesia sent 10 students to the competition in Romania. Diva is not the first Pamekasan
student to win an international science competition. Oktavian Latief, a student from SMA
Negeri 1 Pamekasan won gold at the International Physics Olympiad in 2006. Another
student, Shohibul Maromi, won the same award in 2010.

Text 3
Even K-pop sensation BTS is a fan of the global hit, with band members posting a
video performing the signature greeting between Woo and her best friend, a dance
step-slash-dab that is tearing across social media. But the 16-episode series, which
follows a rookie lawyer whose condition helps her find brilliant solutions to legal
conundrums but often leaves her socially isolated, has gone beyond memes to
trigger a serious debate about autism in South Korea.
Star lawyer Woo Young-woo is fiercely intelligent with an IQ of 164, but also has
visible autistic traits such as echolalia, or the precise repetition of words or
sentences, often out of context. Lead actress Park Eun-bin, 29, who has received
rave reviews, said she initially hesitated to accept the role, aware of the power of
the story to impact perceptions of autistic people in South Korea and beyond. "I
felt I had a moral responsibility as an actor," she told AFP.

For example:
The local MP said, “We plan to make this city a safer place for everyone.”
As you can see, with direct speech it is common to use the verb ‘to say’ (‘said’ in the
past). But you can also find other verbs used to indicate direct speech such as ‘ask’,
‘reply’, and ‘shout’.
For example:
When Mrs Diaz opened the door, I asked, “Have you seen Lee?”
The boss was angry and shouted, “Why isn’t he here? He hasn’t finished that
report yet!”
Indirect Speech
When we want to report what someone said without speech marks and without
necessarily using exactly the same words, we can use indirect speech (also called
reported speech). For example:
P a g e 10 | 14
Direct speech: “We’re quite cold in here.”
When we report what someone says in the present simple, as in the above
sentence, we normally do not change the tense, we simply change the subject.
However, when we report things in the past, we usually change the tense by moving
it one step back. For example, in the following sentence the present simple
becomes the past simple in indirect speech:
All the other tenses follow a similar change in indirect speech. Here is an example
for all the main tenses:
The same rule of moving the tenses one step back also applies to modal verbs.
For example:
As an alternative to using ‘say’ we can also use ‘tell’ (‘told’ in the past) in reported
speech, but in this case, you need to add the object pronoun.
For example:
For example:
P a g e 11 | 14
Indirect speech: She said she was seeing her brother the following day.
Indirect speech: You said you had had a headache the day before.
Indirect speech: She said she had not seen them since the previous
week.
