1. What is feminist criticism in general?

2. What is traditional gender roles?

3. What does it mean by getting beyond patriarchy in feminism theory?

4. Do you think feminism theory is all about female being equal as male?

5. How do we view the literature based on feminism theory?

Answer :

1. Feminist criticism is concerned with how literature involve or try to interpret the economic, political,
social, and psychological oppresion of woman.

2. Traditional gender roles are norms and values that have been defined into a culture in which women
are valued lower than men. Traditional gender roles have been used to justify inequality that still exists
today, namely excluding women

3. Patriarchy is a social system that places men as the main holders of power. Getting beyond patriarchy
in feminist theory, given the difficulties involved in resisting programming patriarchy, many theorists
and literary critics believe that we must be very careful about the use of patriarchal frameworks
themselves, such as psychoanalysis and Marxism. Marxism can be used to help we understand how
economic power has been manipulated by patriarchal and customary laws to make women
economically, politically and socially oppressed lower class

4. No, it is not. There are many kinds of feminist theory. For example, there is the Soft feminist theory
where they believe that female need to do their responsibilities as a female, and there are taking care of
children, managing houses, etc. While it is true that there is a belief that woman can do what male
usually do, while also being an equal within sex (radical feminist theory).

5. We apply it by closely examining the portrayal of the characters, both female and male, the language
of the text, the attitude of the author, and the relationship between the characters. We also consider
the comments the author seems to be making about society as a whole.
