Dr. Demetress Hutchins receives


IUPUI Award

HESA Alum Dr. Demetrees Hutchins (PhD’16) received


the Transformational Leader Award from the IUPUI
School of Education. The award acknowledges alumni
who do extraordinary work as educators and empower
others through their service.
HESA Alum receives Faculty Member
Award
HESA Alum Dr. Michael A. Goodman (M.S.Ed.’12)
received the 2023 Faculty Member of the Year Award
from the Texas Association of College and University
Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA). In
addition, he received the Dr. Adam Peck Research
Development Grant from TACUSPA to study the
experiences of neurodivergent student leaders. He is an
Assistant Professor of Practice in the College of
Education at The University of Texas at Austin. His
research involves college student government, the
student body presidency, and sorority/fraternity life.

HESA Alum Received IUPUI Hines


Award
Dr. David Nguyen (Ph.D.’15) received the Maynard K.
Hine Award from IUPUI. The award recognizes alumni for
their contributions in support of the IUPUI campus and its
alumni programs. He is currently an attorney and
associate professor of Urban Education Leadership and
Policy at IUPUI’s School of Education.

Dr. Jillian Kinzie Co-Edits New Book

Dr. Jillian Kinzie (Ph.D.’02), Associate Director of the IU


Center for Postsecondary Research and the National
Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Institute, served
as a co-editor for the book Radical Reimagining for
Student Success. The book aims to make a set of
arguments about what is possible if campuses radically
reimagine their culture, practices, structures, and rules
with the primary purpose of helping students succeed in
college and beyond.

HESA Alum named Associate Dean

Dr. Adam J. Herman (Ed.D. ’17) has accepted the


Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs
position at the Fletcher School at Tufts University just
outside of Boston. Adam joins Tufts’s Fletcher School with
nearly four years of recent experience leading MBA
academic programs and student experience at Rice
University in Houston, Texas. At Tufts, Adam will lead and
nurture teams in admissions, student affairs, registrar and
advising, and career services, focused on serving
Fletcher’s graduate students in global affairs and
international relations.
HESA Doctoral Student elected to
Graduate Student Government
2nd-year HESA Doctoral Student Kiarra Boenitz has been
elected as the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
(ELPS) Graduate and Professional Student Government
(GPSG) Representative. The position is part of the GPSG
representative body, a collection of students dedicated to
serving over 10,000 graduate and professional students
at IU-Bloomington. As a GPSG representative, Kiarra
aims to do her very best to represent the voices, opinions,
and concerns of those in the ELPS department and looks
forward to representing the HESA community.
