What is the FORM of the poem? Is it a
Sonnet(Shakespearean/Petrarchan)/Ballad/Elegy/Ode/Ekphrastic/Concrete/Epigram/Epitaph/Haiku/Free Verse
What can you say about the Layout or Structure of the poem? How many Stanzas are there? What are the stanzas?
Are they Octaves/Sestets/Quatrains/Rhyming Couplets?
What is the Rhyme Schemes? Is it ABAB, OR ABCB (etc.)

PARAGRAPH FOR EACH STANZA AND YOU NEED TO QUOTE FROM THE POEM, LINE BY LINE, SHOWING (1) WHAT
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE/LITERARY DEVICES ARE USED IN EVERY LINE OF THE POEM (2) WHY DOES THE POET USE THIS
LANGUAGE? TO CREATE WHAT EFFECT /WHAT IS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING EACH OF THE FIGURES OF SPEECH ? (3)
WHAT MESSAGE OR FEELING DO EACH OF THESE EFFECTS GIVE THE READER? (AND THIS HAS TO BE LINE BY LINE. [DO

LINE AND QUOTE AND COMMENTS ON THE FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE.
1. VOICE/SPEAKER: Who are the speakers in the poem? How many voices are there? What perspectives are taken in
each of the stanzas? It could be that there are no voices: just the omniscient narrator (which means that we don't
know exactly who it is/the poet)
2. TYPE OF LANGUAGE: Comment on the type of Language Used (words) - indicate what stanza and what line - use quotation marks

3. FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE / FIGURES OF SPEECH: here are some examples for you to check for:
Word repetition/Epizeuxis /Anastrophe (Word Order)/Caesura/Enjambment
Alliteration/Assonance/Onomatopoeia/Irony/Hyperbole/Consonance/Dissonance/Anaphora
Symbolism/Imagery/Similes/Metaphors/Personification/Metonyms/Synecdoche/Idiom/Untruth or Impossibility
