GUIDELINES FOR DISCIPLERS

6-1: Christian Discipleship and the BLD Personal Values

These fifth set of discipling sessions focuses on discipleship in community from two
perspectives: charisms and personal values.

The objectives of this discipling session are:


1. To clarify the BLD personal values to the aspirant;
2. To review with the aspirant’s life in the light of the BLD personal values.
3. To discern the Lord’s will together with the aspirant on entering into covenant
discipleship in the BLD Community now.
The process of dialogue involves asking the aspirant instances or actual experiences in his/her
life that reflects or does not reflect the test. The questions may be expressed as: “Give me
instances in your life when...,” “Give me instances in your life when you did not...,”
Do not be content with a narration of the circumstances. Try to get a clear and specific picture of
the circumstances in the life of the aspirant and the effects that covenant discipleship in the BLD
community will have upon it. On this basis, pray and discern together with the aspirant on the
Lord’s particular will for him / her.
Accordingly, the discipler’s guide questions could be:

1. Let us go over the BLD Personal Values contained in Righteousness, Self-


Responsibility, Self- Knowledge and Self-Giving
2. To what extent has your life in community been in accord with these values?
What difficulties have you experienced in living up to these values?
3. What is God telling you about becoming a covenanted disciple in community?

At the end of the dialogue the disciple writes the salient points of the dialogue on the
form and gives an informed assessment on the aspirant’s readiness for covenant
discipleship in the BLD.
