other Furthermore, giving patriotism and humanity A

data on what people think and feel about emotions to
experimenting with tremendous type of emotions,
this ALS project helped us a lot in understanding the
importance of emotions that play a major role in our
lives.
Our main focus was to get to know more about
human emotions but on the other hand, we were also
curious to know more about patriotism so after
discussing with the team, we finally concluded that
we will be preparing the ALS project on hunian
emotions, humanity and patriotism.

Emotional conflict is the presence of different and


opposing emotions relating to a situation that has
recently taken place a is in the process of biing
unfolded.

Patriotism is the feeling of the heart and soul towards


the nation. Where as humanity is the love and
compassion towards people and animals. While
representing patriotism, nation come first but in
humanity it does not have such boundaries.

Both are equally important for country. while serving


national duty patriotism hold higher value than
humanity but at other time humanity should be
above all.
HUMANITY AND PATRIOTISM

Both Patriotism and humanity aim at brotherhood


and integration of society. While patriotism is
association of one's loyalty with country based on
primordial qualities. like birth and place, humanity is
association of oneself with the gifted innate qualities
like love, empathy etc. To be patriotic, one must
possess humandy first as it brings out qualities like
loyality, committment etc. necessary for being
patriotic.
DR. SADAO IN DILEMMA

Dr. Sadao bieng patriotic Japanese hates Americans as


his enemies. One day a prisoner of war appears at the
shore near Dr. Sadao's residence wounded and he his
wife Hana move over thin feelings. of hatred towards
him and they treat hem until he is capable of taking
care of himself. Not only they treat him but Dr.Sadao
also helps hem escape. He all the arranges required
for heim to escape. things that are By this humble and
kend act, the theme of the story stands clear that
humanity should. rese above all.

The Enesany gives the message that humanism.


transcends all man made prejudices and an enemy.
basis. Dr. Sadao upholds the ethics of medical
profession in treating. The story is great lesson of
peace, love, Sympathy, fellow feeling and humanism.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE THEME
AND TITLE

"The enemy" is an apt title that has the second would


war as the backgroud. Dr. Sadao; being a skilled

The doctor's professional ethics urge
him to treat the "Enemy" as a patient. Neither Dr.
Sadas non Hana, at ary stage consider him their
friend. Yet they treat as a fellow human being should
be treated. the title is therefore appropriate.
