QUESTIONS:

1. What agent of socialization greatly affects your gender identity?

We all know that a child's initial socialization agent is their family. In order to introduce gender
identity to youngsters, the family's role is crucial since it sets a pattern for the development of the
child's personality. Additionally, the family plays a part in preserving a positive dynamic because
parent-child relationships, particularly those between mothers and fathers, have a significant impact on
how children develop. The way in which the family, and particularly the parents, fulfill their
responsibility to serve as examples for their children can have an impact on how their personalities
develop, particularly when it comes to gender acceptance.

The child's family has a significant impact on their development, shaping both the attitudes and
beliefs they will adopt. It is possible for socializing to occur intentionally or unintentionally; even if a
family is unaware of the signals it is sending, the child will nonetheless benefit from these messages.
The environment that adults create, including gender conventions, is a constant source of learning for
children. For instance, regardless of whether the family is explicitly teaching them, a child who is
raised in a two-parent household where the mother is the housewife and the father is the breadwinner
may internalize these gender roles. Similarly, if parents buy dolls for their daughters and toy trucks for
their sons, the kids will discover that different items have different values.

Families start introducing factors that aid in the development of a gender identity according to the
child's sex. Although there are numerous discussions that involve both sides agreeing and disagreeing
the family's contribution to the development of children's gender identification, as we all know, the

2. Why do you think it molds your gender?

GENDER AND SOCIETY-FINALS #2 Page 2

The first and most important socializing factor is family. Gender stereotypes that a child acquires
in this environment set the tone for them later in life and make it harder and harder for them to modify
their minds. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that sons and girls may be socialized differently by
parents. As an example, guys might be given more autonomy and freedom at a younger age than girls.
They might be subject to fewer limitations about acceptable attire, dating customs, or curfew. Sons
might additionally not be required to conduct housework such as cooking, cleaning, or other jobs that
are viewed as feminine. In contrast, parents may place a strong emphasis on rules for their daughters in
order keep them protected.

Additionally, there might be underlying signs of inequality even when parents make gender
equality a priority. For instance, when dividing up household chores, guys may be assigned the
responsibility of taking out the trash or other tasks that call for strength or toughness, while girls may
be assigned the task of folding laundry or other responsibilities that call for neatness and care.
Furthermore, it has been discovered that fathers are sometimes more rigid in their demands for gender
conformity than mothers. That is why family has a bigger impact when it comes in molding the child's
gender.

In conclusion, because it is the focus of a child's life, the family is the most significant agent of
socialization. Family also has a significant impact on a child's development, influencing both the
attitudes and values the youngster will adopt. Intentional or unintended socializing can occur; even if
the family is unaware of the messages it is sending, these messages nevertheless help the child develop
their social skills. From the environment that adults create, including gender norms, children
continuously learn.
