1. How does the art chosen create the concept/idea of power? Prove by identifying the
components or characteristics of the art.
Rock has taken into an innumerable number of forms and expressions throughout the
millenium; and to say that political groups, movements, or even simple participation are
involved in the matter are an understatement, because for one, they also proliferated some of
the most infamous genres we have, which are punk and metal. Subgenres continue to form,
prolonging the prevalence of these genres, and even in the 21st century, many still take
inspiration from history to create their own pieces of sound or fuse other genres, yet somehow
their messages of democracy and desire for change remain the same. Rock in its core simply
has that emotional aggressiveness in it, a passion for expression that includes instrumentation
wanting to be both daring and brazen; something that Dicta License has recreated themselves.
As an alternative rap rock album, Paghilom surprisingly has one of the most eloquent and
expertly uses of Filipino figurative language. It separates its political topics with in its songs,
creating a coherence on the country’s state and its need for change. A few notable tracks
include Daloy ng Kamalayan, evoking that if we don’t change now, the country and the
people’s fate will be left behind. Enemy, a conscious reflection of what impedes us to act.
Lastly, Sugat, a sympathetic perspective to those who have fought for the good of the country
and how these wounds also include and affect everyone.
2. How does art affect you as a youth in the 21st century? How does art reinforce or
change your idea/concept of power?

There’s pretty much one takeaway to all of it: You’ll learn from the work one away or
another. At times, there are works of art alluding to a certain event of history. Others will
propose their opinions or perspective on a certain matter. Some even challenge the audience to
think, leaving them with a complex rhetoric. We, the youth, are inevitably hungry for
information, and we have the power to easily access it. This includes the effortless access to art,
and with art, also comes the effortless access to learn on perspectives about power: Because
one things for sure, as the technological age has alternatively become an exchange of
perspectives or opinions, we also develop the same things for numerous reasons. I am part of
this phenomenon, as I frequently argue with people on the internet about certain topics; topics
convicted due to the easiness of the internet, including music. Internet knowledge and behavior
will inevitably transpose to one’s image and identity.
