PLANT REPRODUCTION

Plants can reproduce both asexually and sexually.

Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants

The flower is the sexual organ

Pistils or carpels: Female part of the flower; produce the female

gametophytes; each consists of a stigma, style, and ovary

Stamen: Male part of the flower, made up of anther (contains pollen grains) and
filament.

1
POLLINATION AND FERTILIZATION IN FLOWERING PLANTS

A) Self-pollination: Takes place within the same flower.

B) Cross pollination: between different flowers by pollinators like: insects,

birds and wind.

✓ Pollen grain containing three haploid nuclei—one tube nucleus

and two sperm nuclei.

✓ Ovule Containing embryo sac which contains egg

nucleus and endosperm nucleus.

2
Fertilization in plants:

Double fertilization can be seen as:

Pollen tube grows down style toward ovule and enters through a tiny opening
called micropyle.

✓ Pollinators are attracted by

1-color of petals 2-Smell of scented petals

3-Nectar

✓ The relation between bees and flower(mutualism)

✓ Awful or distasteful flowers most likely will be pollinated by (wind or
water)

3
Types of tropism:

A-Phototropism

B-Hydrotropism

C-Geotropism

D-Chemotropism

E-Thigmotropism

4
Auxins: plant hormones

It helps in growth and tropism.
