THE MAIDEN’S CASTLE

In our country, there are marvelous places to visit and see. Which one is your favorite place
among them? If someone asked me this question, I would say Maiden’s Castle. I went there
with my family when I was little. We spend quality time together and enjoyed our vacation.
Besides a breathtaking view, having a beautiful story makes it worth sightseeing. If you have
the opportunity one day, The Maiden’s Castle is a place that you should visit.

Firstly, The Maiden’s Castle, in other words, The Sea Castle, which is surrounded by the sea
is one of the must-see places. Situated in the middle of the deep blue sea, this historical
structure has hosted the Seljuks, Romans, Byzantines, Karamanids, and lastly the Ottoman
states throughout history. The Maiden’s Castle received the Blue Flag award with its clear
turquoise, blue sea, and wide and long seasides. In addition to its enchanting beauty, it has
managed to enter the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Maiden's. Castle is located 1 hour
away from Mersin. To reach The Maiden’s Castle, you can get on the boat and enjoy the
view.

Secondly, one of the aspect that makes The Maiden's Castle unique is that it has a distinctive
story. When you go to The Maiden's Castle, it is nearly impossible not to hear The Legend of
The Maiden's Castle. According to this legend once there was a king who had no one but his
daughter. One day, the king consulted a renowned fortune-teller to find out about the future of
his one and only daughter. The fortune-teller said that when she was 19, she would die from
being bitten by a snake. When he heard that he was very upset. He puzzle over and in the end
decided to build a castle in the middle of the sea to protect the princess from the snakes.
Preparations started immediately and after a while, the princess started to live in the Maiden's
Castle, however, the princess was upset that she did not know these threats and she all tore up
day by day. When the King realise that to motivate her he organized festivities in the Castle in
honor of her nineteenth birthday. A peasant woman who was invited to these festivities
brought a basketful of delicious, juicy, and brilliant grapes from her vineyard as a gift. The
princess started to eat the grapes that she loved very much, but at that moment the snake came
out of the basket and caused her death. Maiden's Castle is commemorated with this sorrowful
story. This story is not only sad but also instructive. "Things will happen while they can."
İndeed it demonstrate that how correct this common phrase.

Finally, The Maiden’s Castle is valuable to see with its awesome scene and attractive legend.
When I went there with my family we had a good time thus, If you are looking for a good
place to spend time with your family The Maiden’s Castle can be a suitable suggestion for
you. During my visit to The Maiden’s Castle, I realize that its story made it more meaningful.
Also, this legend confirms that If something has to happen, it will still happen in some way no
matter how hard you try. As said in this idiom “Whatever will be, will be.”
