1NEVER TOO OLD TO SERVE

“ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have
fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” (II Tim. 6:6 & 7)
INTRODUCTION:
-future generation (heard great heritage here)
-fundamentalism is on decline
-three generation pattern (spiritual Christian, carnal Christian, lost person)-Judges 2:7-10

“But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober,
grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that
they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine,
teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their
husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient
to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” (Titus 2:1-5)

I. The inspiration of the aged men (v. 2) (I Tim 4:12 “...be thou an example of the believers,
in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”)
(Tit 2:7 “In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing
uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,”)
A. Be an example
1. Sober- (vigilant) as a veteran soldier
2. Sound in faith- true believers, stay in the Word of God
3. Patient- steadfastly persevering; non-compromising
B. Be an encourager- need to disciple the younger men
“Spiritual discipleship is an intentional personal relationship in which
one believer helps another believer maximize his or her potential for
the biblical mission.” Rev. Steven Thomas
1. Temperate- Exhibiting self-control.
2. Grave- august, venerable, reverend, honorable
3. Charity- unconditional love

II. The instruction by the aged women

A. “As becometh holiness”- seek holy lives
B. “Teach young women- special mission to older women to teach the younger
(sacred duty).
1. Love their husbands- serve God easier
2. Love their children- in the ministry

III. “That the word of God be not blasphemed”- many in the world today can’t see the
difference between the saved and the unsaved. Some hold Christianity in mockery
because of the lives lived by many “Christians”. Someone once said that they would
become a Christian if it were not for all the bad testimonies of the Christians. There is a
GREAT NEED for discipleship and the “aged” are the ones who are given the
responsibility to do the job and be the example. May I encourage you to take someone
under your wing and start to disciple them that we might keep the faith strong.

until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one
that is to come.”
