TEACHING MUSIC IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

EXPERIENCE: Research

Research for other reasons (at least three more) why music is beneficial for child development. Select one and share
it in class.

1. Music is woven into the fabric of our lives

Music's significance in early childhood is evident in its integral role in everyday experiences, celebrations,
rituals, and ceremonies, fostering shared experiences and bringing people together.
2. Expands Communication & Imagination

Language learning in children begins with exposure to language, such as babbling and cooing. Babbling
helps develop neural pathways for later listening and speaking. Infants with directed language babble more
and gain larger vocabularies. Exposure to lullabies, nursery rhymes, and music aids learning.
3. Music promotes the harmonious interaction between the body and the mind.
Music exposure during early development aids children in learning word sounds, motor skills, self-
expression, and memory, while dancing promotes self-expression and enhances memory for both children
and adults.
