RELATED REVIEW LITERATURE

This chapter contains some related studies and related

literature having bearing on the study. This gave important
concepts and ideas on how to evaluate waste management in
relation to community dynamics and environmental sustainability.

Waste management can entails gathering, removing,

processing, and disposing of waste materials. Waste materials are
typically produced by human activities and might be toxic,
gaseous, liquid, or solid. Historically, affluent countries have either
dumped their waste in landfills or burned it in incinerators to cope
with their waste. There are serious environmental issues with both
of these strategies.

With the global proliferation of waste, many countries are seeking new ways to
effectively manage waste generation. An integrated waste management
strategy often incorporates a participatory approach involving the
communities in the waste disposal and management process. One key area to
achieving an integrated solid waste management framework is through an
understanding of the waste disposal dynamics of municipal communities. This
study represent of waste characterization, household waste management,
willingness to recycle and waste management policy for a municipal region in
Guyana. (PARAPHASEEEEEEEEEEEE)

Waste is unusable, unwanted, or worthless materials that are

discarded and it is derived from human
activities not from its own nature. Waste management is a shared
responsibility. It is stated in government
rule, that “everyone is required to reduce and manage waste”
Unmanaged waste can be a threat to public health. Community
participation is absolutely essential in
implementing community-based waste management. Community
participation in waste management can
be implemented through active involvement in the process of
disposal, transportation, and waste
management, with a sense of awareness and responsibility to
create a clean and healthy environment
Factors that can affect waste management are population
characteristics (income, age of assets)
community participation, volume of waste and waste
characteristics. Liliba Village still has waste
management problems. People are still disposing wastein empty
landand rivers, and burning garbage in the
yard of their houses.
