It indicates the level of formality


with which the person speaks.
It refers to the form of language
that the speaker utilizes which is
characterized by the level of
formality or informality.

Intimate
Communicative
Style
This style is used by
participants who know each
other well or share a very
close relationship.
Good morning, my love.
ex.
Honey, do you want me to make you
your favorite dish?
Babe, you look absolutely incredible in
that dress.
I think we are perfect together, don’t you
agree, my darling?
Sweetie, don’t run around too fast or you
might fall down.

Most of the ambiance with this style is
relaxed and very light. The participants
may use group language only members of
the group can understand. Jargon, slang,
or the vernacular language are used. The
tone is conversational and interruptions
are very common. Also, nicknames are
used in addressing one another.

The listener participates by giving
feedback. Thus, both the speaker and
the listener are active participants.

Formal Communicative Style
There is no participation from the listener.
This style is often used in the following
formal situations where there is only one-
way communication.
Ex. - Greetings
• “Hello, good morning.”
• “How are you doing?”
• “I hope everything is fine with you.”
-To show approval or excitement
• That is terrific to hear!
-Making Suggestions/ Giving advise
• Would you please allow me to make suggestions?
-To say goodbye or good night
• Goodbye, Mrs. Pineda.
• Good night, Mr. Cruz.

FROZEN COMMUNICATIVE STYLE
There is no participation from the
listener. This style is often used in the
following formal situations where there
is only one-way communication.

·National Anthem
·Oathtaking
Speech for a state ceremony
