SYNTHESIS

Some would say old buildings should be replaced with modern ones in the reason that it has no
value to offer and is a inconsequence in today’s modern world, such as the Municipality of
Victoria that traces back to its Spanish history of well-preserved municipal building, several old
houses depicting Spanish architecture and various edifices that were built more than a hundred
years ago.
The Municipality of Victoria is brim with Spanish architecture being dubbed as the “Mini Vigan
of Tarlac” full of cultural heritage dating back from the Spanish colonial period to the American
and Japanese Occupation. Sadly, many of the undocumented buildings left were either
demolished, destroyed by typhoons, or abandoned. One heritage building, the “Bulwagan ng
Kalayaan” was demolished to be replaced with a modern Gymnasium.
In every place around the world, one’s culture and heritage represent their identity and way of
life. That is why it is important to preserve the Filipino cultural heritage because it gives us a
purpose and meaning of our lifestyle then and now. It showcases our beliefs and traditions; gives
form and shape to our values, customs, and aspirations; and mold and ensure our identity as
Filipinos.
