ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Under five children period begin from neonate to five year.
During their life, physical growth, maturation, acquisition of competence and
psychological recognition occurs in discontinues burst. The parents feel more
comfortable when the child reaches its under five year period. Upper respiratory tract
infections are the common problem in under five children as well as children and it is
the major cause of lower respiratory tract infections, many acute respiratory infections
are mild and cause few symptoms. Acute respiratory infections mostly in the form of
pneumonia, is leading cause of death in under-five children killing more than 2 million
children annually. RESEARCH APPROACH: Quantitative Research approach.
DESIGN: Pre Experimental one group pre-test and post test design.
PARTICIPINATS: 30 mothers of under five children were selected by using non
probability consecutive sampling technique. INTERVENTION: On first day pre-test
was done by using self structure questionnaire and explain about home management
and prevention of acute respiratory tract infection by using nurse assisted teaching
program. On 5th day were conducted post test by using the self structured questionnaire.
TOOL: Self structured questionnaire. RESULTS: The Comparison of mean and
standard deviation of pre test and post test level of knowledge regarding home
management and prevention of acute respiratory tract infection among mother of under
five children. The mean score was increased from 10.67 to 28.07 which showed a
marked difference of 13.4 respectively and the standard deviation was decreased from
2.86 to 1.46 after the administration of nurse assisted teaching program. The paired’ test
value at 18.14, was very highly significant at p<0.001 level. It indicates the
effectiveness of nurse assisted teaching programme on increasing the level of
knowledge regarding home management and prevention of acute respiratory tract
infection among mother of under five children. Hence the hypothesis was accepted.
CONCLUSION: The knowledge level of students regarding home management and
prevention of acute respiratory tract infection is improved. KEY WORDS: Evaluate,
