situated at 0.5m from opening.

e) Sash

The sash window and front panel shall be of 6mm toughened glass. The sash will
automatically open an increasing by pass area above the sash, thus by-passing high velocity
air above the sash glazing panels and insuring constant face velocities regardless of sash
position.

f) By-Pass

The by-pass shall be provided in such manner that any closing of the sash will automatically
open and increasing by pass area above the sash, thus by-passing high velocity air above the
sash glazing panels and insuring constant face velocities regardless of sash position.

polypropylene.

h) Dripcup

Shall be of epoxy resin cupsink recessed and sealed into the worktop integral with a waste
connector and vulcathene or polypropylene P-trap.

i) Base Cabinet

The base cabinet shall be constructed of 38mm thick hardwood with chemical resistance
melamine ply finish with single compartment, two hinged doors, removable fullwidth shelf
and rear panels for access to service connections.

4) Accessories

a) Fire Extinguisher

Each fume cupboard shall be supplied together with a 6kg carbon dioxide fire extinguisher
mounted on a bracket fixed to the rooms concrete walls.

vapour-proof shied to provide a light, bright, non-glare working area. The following switches
but not limited to shall be mounted in the front panel.

1 no. light switch

1 no. blower starter switch with integral pilot plight
2 nos. 240V/13A socket outlet

All wiring and electrical components shall be located outside the laboratory hood cavity.
Wiring shall be in metal conduit.

b) Other Services

Other services fixtures with remote control shall be provided and factory installed :-

1 no. swivel Swan Neck Water Faucet for Cold Water.

2 nos. one way gas tap c/w piping, fitting, etc. for each fume cupboard.

The faucet, gas taps and serrated hose connections shall be of BS or SIRIM approved brand,
and made of epoxy coated brass. The valves to have stainless steel needles and seats. The
remote control handles shall be colour coded.

6) Exhaust System

a) Exhaust Control Damper

An adjustable control damper shall be provided for each exhaust duct installed to achieve the
specified face velocity. It shall be installed in an easy accessible position and incorporates a
locking arrangement to prevent unauthorized interference.

b) Ducting

The exhaust duct shall be constructed of round, extruded, UPVC (unplacticised Polyvinyl
Cloride) material conforming to BS 3506 : 1969. The pipes shall be grey. The duct shall be
diameter 200mm to 250mm and shall not be less than Class “O” with thickness of 3.1mm to
3.4mm for 250mm and 310mm nominal diameter. The ductwork shall be airtight (leakproof)
and gaskets where fitted shall be resistant to fumes and condensates. It shall be maintained
under negative pressure to ensure all leaks are into duct.

All bracing member in the exhaust air stream shall have corrosion and heat resistance not less
than the ducting material.

c) Welding

Welding of ductwork joints shall be done by hot gas fusion method utilising filler rods of the
same UPVC base material being joined.

d) Bends

All bends shall be kept to a minimum number and have the largest radii practicable. There
should be a minimum horizontal runs and where such runs and where such runs are
unavoidable, they should have an inbuilt slope towards a drainage point. Drainage points
shall be provided at all low points of the extraction system.

e) Air Velocity

Contractor are to ensure that the air velocities in the ductwork shall not exceed 5.5m/s.

f) Support

The exhaust duct shall sun internally to be supported by galvanized steel brackets of thickness
not less than 4mm and bolted to the building wall with suitable high strength anchoring bolt.

A layer of felt material not less than 6mm thick shall be used to separate the pipe from the
metal braces. The duct shall be properly covered by 20 gauge GI trunking and painted to the
satisfaction of the S.O.
