LENS MAKER’S FORMULAE

Examples: -
Ex. 1 - The radius of curvature of each
face of biconcave lens, made of glass of
refrac�ve index 1.5 is 30 cm. Calculate
the focal length of the lens in air.
Answer: f = – 30 cm
Ex. 2 - The radii of curvature of the
faces of a double convex lens are 10 cm
and 15 cm. If focal length is 12 cm,
what is the refrac�ve index of glass?

Answer: 𝝁𝝁 = 1.5
Ex. 3 - A biconvex lens has a focal

the convex surface of a plano-convex
lens, whose focal length is 0.3 m and
the refrac�ve index of the material of
the lens is 1.5.
