Combinations for Owning a House

There is no place like one’s home. Everyone dreams and aspires for it. The house and home
does not appear to be in one’s own hands. For many it remains a dream. While some are born
with exquisitively furnished mansions like Swaraj Bhawan of Allahabad, some by sheer dint of
luck occupy palace-like buildings like Rashtrapati Bhavan of Teen Murti house in New Delhi, or
White House in Washington or Buckingham Palace in London. Some with God’s grace, succeed
in building a house with their own resources; some have to take loan to build their own house;
and some though owning palaces have to live in far off places, like Bahadur Shah Zafar. One’s
own prarabdha indicated by planetary positions gives, or destroys a hut or a mansion to live in.
Finding an answer to such question as what kind of a house a person will live in, is the
purpose of this paper.

Methodology
We are, in our investigation, making use of: (a) position of the 4th house and the 4th lord
from Lagna and the Moon; (b) Position of Bhoomikaraka Mars; (c) Navamsa position of the 4th
lord in Lagna Chart and Mars, and (d) the 4th house and the 4th lord, and Mars in Chaturthamsa
– as suggested by Mr. K N Rao treating it as though it were a birth-horoscope.
In addition to the above, various yogas mentioned in classical astrological works will also be
seen incidentally on the touch-stone of practical examples of (a) those who own a house, (b)
those who live in palace-like mansions without owning them, (c) those who have built their
houses, and (e) those who have built their houses by raising loans.

Those Who Own a House

The first case is that of Mr Jawaharlal Nehru. The 4th house from Lagna and the Moon has
Venus positioned in Libra, his own sign, along with the 3rd lord and the 12th lord Mercury, a
benefic. He has Uttama Graha Yoga (Yoga No.187 given in Dr B V Raman’s Three Hundred
Important Combinations) as 4th lord Venus is with Mercury in a Kendra (quadrant). This gave
Nehru, first the Swaraj Bhavan to live in and later on, the Anand Bhavan. But Mercury did not
allow him to enjoy his life in either of the two houses on account of other malefic effects on the
4th house and the 4th lord.
In Navamsa, Venus is in Sagittarius in the 11th house. Mars is better placed in its moolatrikona in
the 3rd house but aspected by 3rd and 12th lord Jupiter from the 7th house—Padasthana in
Lagna chart.
In Chaturthamsa (considered independently) the 4th house is aspected by its own lord, the Moon,
and 9th and 12th lord Jupiter.
Mars as Lagna lord in Chaturthamsa aspects the 4th house from 9th house. No doubt, he could
own a palace-like mansion Anand Bhavan but could not live happily in that mansion on account
of heavy afflictions. See separating effect of Saturn on 4th lord Moon (in Chaturthamsa) and of
Jupiter’s aspect as 12th lord in 12th with Ketu, and of Lagna and 8th lord Mars from 9th on the
4th house.
The second example (Chart 2) is of one of my friends who had to fight up to the Supreme Court
to save his share in the ancestral property against his own father and his step-brothers. The 4th
lord Mars is placed in its own sign Aries, along with debilitated Saturn (with cancellation of
debilitation). The Lagna lord Saturn is the dispositor of the 8th lord Sun and of Mercury, 6th and
9th lord as also of Venus, the 5th and 10th lord.
Chart 2: Born on 23-1-1942 at 3.9 a.m. with balance of Mercury Dasa at birth: 4 years, 5 months
and 11 days.
Rasi: Capricorn: Ascendant with Venus, Mercury, the Sun; Aquarius: Ketu; Pisces: the Moon;
Aries: Saturn and Mars; Taurus: Jupiter; and, Leo: Rahu.
Navamsa: Leo: Ascendant and Venus; Virgo: Mercury; Libra: Rahu; Sagittarius: Saturn;
Aquarius: the Moon; Pisces: the Sun; Aries: Ketu; Gemini: Jupiter; and, Cancer: Mars.
Chaturthamsa: Libra: Ascendant with Mercury and Venus; Scorpio: Jupiter and Ketu; Sagittarius:
the Moon; Capricorn: Saturn; Aries: the Sun; Taurus: Rahu, and Cancer: Mars.
Saturn aspects the 6th lord and 6th house also. This gives a clue to the litigation. The classical
principle mentioned by Dr B V Raman in his How to Judge a Horoscope, that lord of Lagna or
the 7th joining Lagna or the 4th indicate possession of houses, is applicable. Mahadeva in his
Jataka Tatva says that if the lords of the 4th and the 1st are in the 4th, the native should own a
house al of a sudden. This is to be seen in this case. In Navamsa debilitated Mars is in the 12th
but in Subhakartari.
In Chaturthamsa, lord of the 4th Saturn is in the 4th itself and karaka Mars is 2nd and 7th lord,
debilitated and further dispositor of the 6th lord Jupiter.
The third example (Chart 3) is of another friend. He owns a mansion and is a multimillionaire. In
Rasi, the 4th house is in Rahu-Ketu axis, the 4th lord is in the 6th with 2nd and 5th lord Mercury.
Mars being retrograde in the 11th aspects the 4th as well as the 4th lord Sun. But does it explain
the situation? Certainly not!

and 19 days.

Moon; Libra: Mercury; Scorpio: Ketu; Aquarius: Jupiter, and Pisces: Venus.
In Navamsa, the Sun, 4th lord in Rasi, is exalted in the 3rd. Mars is in the 11th in Rahu-Ketu axis
but also aspected by Venus.
In Chaturthamsa 4th lord, the Sun, is in the 3rd in Cancer aspected by 9th and 10th lord Saturn
from Lagna, the 4th house is aspected by the lord of the 11th and the 8th, Jupiter. Mars is with
the Moon in the 5th aspected by exalted Venus. He does not live in that mansion on account of a
new business started by him and his son and only visits that place occasionally.

Those who Live in Mansions without Owning them

A very good example of such a case is of Mr Morarji Desai. Mercury, the 4th lord (Chart 4), is in
the 8th with Bhoomikaraka Mars exalted and 5th lord Venus aspected by 10th lord Jupiter. In
Navamsa, Mercury again is in the 8th in Rahu-Ketu axis and Mars is in the 3rd in Aquarius, both
in inimical Navamsa.

In Chaturthamsa, Jupiter, the 4th lord is retrograde but is in inimical sign Libra. The 4th house is
not aspected by Saturn (R), Mars, Bhoomikaraka, is exalted in the 5th, aspected by Chaturthamsa
Lagna lord Mercury, 2nd and 9th lord Venus and 5th and 6th lord Saturn. Here again we may
note the connection between the 4th lord Jupiter and the 10th house in Chaturthamsa.
Should it mean that when the 4th and the 4th lord and Bhoomikaraka Mars are both
comparatively well placed and well aspected in Chaturthamsa, a man may own and when only
one of them is not so well placed or aspected specially when 4th lord is in satru Rasi, he may live
in mansions and bungalows without owning them. I leave this question here to be tested by the
learned readers.
The next case (Chart 5) is unusual. The native owns a mansion which has been let out to a bank
and he is also living in very good accommodation allotted to him by the government. In the Rasi,
the 4th lord Mars is in the 11th in Gemini with Lagna lord Sun and Ketu. Besides, the 4th house
is occupied by the 5th and 8th lord Jupiter and aspected by the 2nd and 11th lord Mercury, 10th
and 3rd lord Venus, as well as 6th and 7th lord Saturn. In Navamsa, Mars is in the 7th in Libra,
along with debilitated Lagna lord, the Sun. The great Parasara lays down a dictum that if the 10th
house as counted from the Navamsa occupied by Atmakaraka planet (here Saturn) is occupied or
aspected by a shubha(s) or benefics the native will possess immovable property. It applies here
due to aspect of Venus.
Chart 5: Born on 16-6-1939 at 9.52 hrs. with balance of Venus Dasa at birth: 8 years, 3 months
and 10 days.
Rasi: Leo: Ascendant; Scorpio: Jupiter; Sagittarius: Rahu; Aquarius: Saturn; Aries: the Moon;
Taurus: Mercury and Venus; Gemini: Mars, the Sun and Ketu.

In Chaturthamsa, Mars is the 4th lord and again in the 11th in Gemini along with Lagna lord, the
Sun; but the 4th house is occupied by the 6th and 7th lord Saturn. The 7th is Padasthna and if its
lord influences the 4th and 10th houses or their lords, it gives accommodation due to Rajyakrupa
or Anugraha.
The sixth case (Chart 6) is again such a case where the native owns a house but is living in very
good government accommodation. In his case the 4th lord is in the 4th with Mars, 3rd and 8th
lord and the Moon 11th lord aspected by 5th and 6th lord Saturn (retrograde). In Navamsa the
4th lord Jupiter is in Scorpio in the 11th in Rahu-Ketu axis aspected by Mercury and Saturn.
Chart 6: Born on 13-10-1937 at 3.26 a.m. with balance of Sun’s Dasa: at birth: 4 years, 11
months and 12 days.
Rasi: Virgo: Ascendant, the Sun and Mercury; Scorpio: Rahu; Sagittarius: the Moon, Mars and
Jupiter; Pisces: Saturn (R); Taurus: Ketu, and, Leo: Venus.

In Chaturthamsa, the 4th lord Jupiter is in Virgo with 11th lord, the Moon, aspected by Saturn
and Mars; the 4th is occupied by Lagna and 10th lord Mercury and aspected by 5th and 6th lord
Saturn, 12th lord Sun and the 3rd and 8th lord Mars. See the connection between the 4th, 7th and
10th lords again. Note also separating effect of the 6th lord Saturn, 12th lord Sun and Mars, 3rd
and 8th lord. But also note exchange between Lagna lord Mercury in the 4th and 4th lord Jupiter
in Lagna with 11th lord and aspect of Mars on 4th and 4th lord. This allowed him to own a house
as well as to enjoy fruits of government allotted accommodation.

Those who Owned but Lost their Houses

An interesting case is of a native (Chart 7) who is a senior railway official who has lost his
ancestral house and property on account t of partition of the country. But even before that his
other house was destroyed due to a bomb explosion at Rangoon. The 4th house is occupied by
Mars, Jupiter and Ketu, all two of them representing Agnitatva in Leo Rasi, again an Agnitatva
Rasi. However, the Sun, the 4th lord, is in Lagna with 2nd and 5th lord Mercury. In Navamsa, the
Sun is in the 12th in Gemini and in Rahu-Ketu axis. Mars is in Libra in the 4th with Venus and
Jupiter aspected by Saturn.
Chart 7: Born on 4-6-1933 t 5.40 a.m. with balance of Moon’s Dasa at birth: 1 year, 10 months
and 19 days.
