Gewindeauslaute, Gewindefreistiche fir Metrisches ISO-Gewinde nach DIN 13 Supersedes September 1978 edition As itis current practice in standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the comma has been used throughout as a decimal marker. ‘This standard incorporates specifications featured in International Standards ISO 3508 — 1976 and ISO 4755 — 1983. Factual amendments or additions are identified as such in the Explanatory notes. Dimensions in mm 1 Field of application ‘This standard incorporates specifications for thread run-outs and thread undercuts for bolts, screws and simiar com- ‘ponents with ISO metric screw threads (coarse thread and fine thread) in accordance with DIN 13 Part 1 and Part 12. Itis valid for all standard parts, providing reference is made to this standard. In case of necessity, the letter symbols featured here may be used. It is recommended that this standard also be adopted for bolts, screws and similar compo- nents with ISO metric serew thread which have not been standardized, Noxmung VB 2. For other screw threads, e.g. UN thread, it is recommended to use the equations featured in tables 1 and 2, which are ‘elated to the thread pitch, in appropriate manner (e.g. x4 " 2,5 P) for the determination of thread rur-outs and of thread undercuts. Explanatory notes On the occasion of the last revision of DIN 76 Part 1 in 1975, the standard had already been harmonized with Inter~ national Standard ISO 3508 (which was in the preliminary stage at that time) in respect of the thread run-outs. This inter rational standard was published in 1976, and it was practically identical with subclauses 1.1 and 1.2 of the September 1975 edition of DIN 76 Part 1 In the meantime, Standard ISO 4755 — 1983 was elaborated as a complement to ISO 3608. It contains specifications on thread undercuts for external threads, and it led to a revision of DIN 76 Part 1. “The present revised edition of DIN 76 Part 1 takes both the above ISO Standards into account and only deviates from 180 4755 in respect of the type A (normal) thread undercut for external threads (2 = 3,6 P instead of 3 P). In addition, ‘this standard continues to feature the previous type B (short) thread undercut for external threads, which is not speci fied in 180 4765. During international standardization, the attempt was made to group type A undercuts (normal) with & = 3,5 P and type B undercuts (short) with g2 = 2,6 P to a single undercut with gz = 3 P. National trials have, however, clearly demonstrated that an undercut with a = 3 P cannot be reliably adhered to when using conventional tools, and ‘that it requires 3,5 P if the thread is to run out completely into the undercut, and if it is to be ensured that the bolt can be tightened right up to abutment (bolt head). For this reason the two previous types of thread underout (g, = 3,5 P and 2 © 2.5 P) have bean retained, with g = 2,5 P only being used in exceptional cases for design reasons, and requiring the Use of special tools. It is intended to submit a relevant request for the revision of ISO 4756 in due course. ‘As regards the thread run-out of screws with a shank diameter approximately equal to the pitch diameter, only the xy ‘thread run-out is now specified, in deviation from the previous specifications, It isto be regarded as maximum size, and it may be assumed that it will be 0,5 x approximately as a general rule, in view of the more slender shank.
