ART AND LITERATURE

What is Art?

Art refers to the diverse range of human activities involving the creation of visual,
auditory, or performance-based artifacts that express imaginative or technical skill and
are intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. It encompasses
various forms such as painting, sculpture, music, literature, dance, theater, film, and
more. Art often serves as a means of communication, reflection, and cultural
expression.

• Drama
Genghis Khan (or Ang Buhay ni Genghis Khan) is a 1950 Filipino biopic film
directed by Manuel Conde, based on the life of Mongol ruler and emperor
Genghis Khan. It was the earliest film to depict the Khan's life.
Genghis Khan is considered a classic. The film was given a technical
achievement citation upon its debut at the 1952 Venice Film Festival. It also was
shown at the 1952 Edinburgh Film Festival.

• Opera

Sangdugong Panaguinip or Sandugong Panaguinip (English: The Dreamed


Alliance, Baybayin:ᜐᜇᜄ ᜉᜈᜄᜈ) is a Philippine opera which is regarded as
the first to be done in the Tagalog language. Set in the 16th century in the
banks of the Pasig River, Muslim pirates come to the area (around Modern
day Pasig, Cainta, and Antipolo) to claim maidens as their tribute. Lapu
witnesses an alliance between the people of the Philippines and the United
States in a dream which could lead to the rescue of the maidens. The opera
was composed by Ladislao Bonus in the Tagalog language, the first in
Philippine opera history,[2] and was based on a translation made by Roman
G. Reyes of Pedro Paterno's La Alianza Soñada, a Spanish libretto. It had a
single act with five scenes. Sampaguita" ("Flor de Manila") was among the
more popular songs used in the opera which was composed by Dolores
Paterno.[3]"Marca Hispanica", "Lupang Hinirang", and '"The Star-Spangled
Banner", national anthems of the Spain, the Philippines, and the United
States were also incorporated in the opera. Sandugong Panaguinip had its
premiere on August 2, 1902 at the Zorrilla Theatre in Manila. The Molina-
Benito Company staged the initial performance of the opera. The opera had
subsequent performances for more than a week with Governor General
William H. Taft often in attendance although the opera only had five
performances according to publications.
 Sculpture
Bonifacio Monument Filipino sculptors came to be known in the middle of
the 19th century. Classical Philippine sculpture reached its peak in the
works of Guillermo Tolentino (1890-1976). His best known masterpiece is
the Bonifacio Monument, which is a group sculpture composed of
numerous figures massed around a central obelisk. The principal figure is
Andres Bonifacio, leader of the revolution against Spain in 1896. Behind
him stands Emilio Jacinto, the brains of the Katipunan. The Bonifacio
Monumen t - completed in 1933 -- marked the apex of Tolentino'’s career.

21st CENTURY LITERATURE

• Traces artistic representation of shared and familiar experiences

Why 21st Century Literature?

Simply because of SHS were all born in or just before 21st century. This is their
century. For them, the 20th century is what the 19th century is to us, teachers.

• Illustrated Novel

-is a story or narrative told through words complemented by illustrated images. In


most illustrated fiction, 50% of the narrative is presented without words while some may
not contain any text at all, so the reader must interpret the images to comprehend the
story completely.

• Cellphone Novel

- Cell phone or mobile phone novels called keitai shousetsu in Japanese, are the
first literary genre to emerge from the cellular age via text messaging. The genre of cell
phone novel was first started in 2000 by a young Japanese writer from Tokyo who posted the
short chapters of his novel by using a pseudonym “Yoshi.”He gave the title of his novel as Deep
Love.

• Text Serye

- text or online version of series of narrative sent through either mobile phone or
internet. Vince and Kath is an online romantic series written by Jenny Ruth Almocera.
The stories consist screenshot of SMS and chat conversations between the character
and few narrative sections. Each album comprises one chapter of the story.

- It has become popular on social media especially facebook.

• Text tula

- short poems sent as text message or posts one on the internet

-One of the most recent genres in Philippine Literature is the textula, a poetry
genre mastered by Frank Rivera.

• Spoken Poetry

- is a poetry that is written on page but performed for an audience

- Because it is performed, this poetry tends to demonstrate a heavy use of


rhythm, improvisation, free association, rhymes, rich poetic, phrases, word play and
slang.

- Use simile, metaphor, irony and personification in great degree


• Manga

- It is used in English speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and
graphic novels originally published in Japan.

• Doodle Fiction

- a literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle drawings and


hand written graphics in place od traditional font.
