What is Sociolinguistcs by many authors

Bernard Spolsky say that Sociolinguistics is “the study of the different ways

in which various groups of people use language”. The research I conducted provides

a brief but complete introduction to the field. He explores how sociolinguistics links to

other disciplines such as history, politics and gender studies.

Etxebarria says that Sociolinguistics is a linguistic discipline, whose object of

analysis is the study of language in its social context, in real use, as it occurs among the

speakers of a community. It studies languages, through the variation of linguistic

behaviors produced by the speakers of a given linguistic community, taking into

account the social identity of sender and receiver and the communicative context in

which said speech acts occur.

William Labov has influenced the field of sociolinguistics applied to education

through his research on language change in urban communities. Although he is not

primarily an education-focused author, his research provides valuable insights for the

application of sociolinguistics in educational contexts. Some of the ways in which his

work has influenced the educational field are:Linguistic variation in the classroom:

Labov has shown that there is variation in language use as a function of social factors,

such as social class or ethnic group.

Dell Hymes applied sociolinguistics in the field of education through his

concept of "communicative competence" and its emphasis on understanding how people

use language in social and cultural contexts.

How is connected with the subject

In order to know the relationship that these terms have, we must first know the
meaning of the terms.

First.

What is sociolinguistics?

Sociolinguistics, the study of the sociological aspects of language. The

discipline concerns itself with the part language plays in maintaining the social roles in
a community. Sociolinguists attempt to isolate those linguistic features that are used in
particular situations and that mark the various social relationships among the
participants and the significant elements of the situation. Influences on the choice of
sounds, grammatical elements, and vocabulary items may include such factors as age,
sex, education, occupation, race, and peer-group identification, among others.

What is the morphology?

Morphology is the study of the internal structure of words and forms a core
part of linguistic study today. The term morphology is Greek and is a makeup of morph-
meaning ‘shape, form’, and -ology which means ‘the study of something’.

Morphology, in linguistics, study of the internal construction of words.

Languages vary widely in the degree to which words can be analyzed into word
elements, or morphemes

What is the phonetic?

Phonetics, the study of speech sounds and their physiological production

and acoustic qualities. It deals with the configurations of the vocal tract used to produce
speech sounds (articulatory phonetics), the acoustic properties of speech sounds
(acoustic phonetics), and the manner of combining sounds so as to make syllables,
words, and sentences (linguistic phonetics).
Relationship between sociolinguistic with morphology and phonetic.

The relationship that sociolinguistics has with morphology and phonetics is

that, we know that sociolinguistics studies languages in the social context, that is, it
seeks a way to understand how languages influence society. On the other hand, we
know that phonetics studies the sounds of languages and morphology studies the
structure of words.

So, for you to be able to communicate in society you need to know the
pronunciation of words to form sentences or paragraphs, you also need to know the
structure of words that is what phonology and morphology are for.

A brief example is when you want to start a conversation with a person

originally from the United States, you must know that person's language, in this case it
would be English, you need to know the pronunciation, and the structure of the words,
that is where the morphology and Phonology is related to sociolinguistics
Characteristics:

 Sociolinguistics is characterized by analyzing language as a social and

cultural phenomenon, and not as an abstract system, independent of the

person who uses it.

 To do this, he studies languages and the way of speaking within the

context in which they occur, in real life situations and focusing his

attention on the circumstances.

 In this way, this discipline has points of contact with the social

sciences, especially anthropology and sociology, with which it shares

similar research methodologies. Sociolinguistics characteristics and

theory.

 Sociolinguistics knowledge has been used to facilitate the learning of

first and second languages, because the social context is a fundamental

element in this process

Examples

Women

 Sharing their problems and experiences with others, often to offer

sympathy.

 They usually asked when confronted with their friend about their problems.

Men
 Male tendencies to non-self-disclosure and professing advice or offering a

solution when confronted with another’s problems. Because man usually

solve their problems by themselves
