Understanding Human-Human Relationship
(Harmony in Relationship)
1. Relationship is
– between one self (I1) and other self (I2).
2. There are feelings in relationship
– in one self (I1) for other self (I2)
3. These feelings can be recognized
– they are definite (9 Feelings).
4. Their recognition, fulfilment and evaluation
-leads to mutual happiness.

KOE 046/ Unit-I

Continued
• We naturally live in a family.
• Family is the basic unit of human interaction
– A child starts interacting with mother, father and
other members in the family, and starts
understanding relationship.
• In family we have relationships where we
interact with other human beings.
• Human being gets the opportunity to interact,
understand and fulfill relationships in a family.

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Continued

1. It is not possible to create the relationships that are

existent in a family.
2. we are embedded in relationships;
• they are there and all that we need to do is to recognize
them and understand them.
3. There are feelings in relationship
– in one self (I1) for other self (I2)
4. It is the Self (‘I’) that understands and has feelings.
• The Body is only a means to express or receive our
relationship.
KOE 046/ Unit-I
Continued
• Once
– we have recognized the existence of human
relationships
– we can identify the feelings (values).

Fulfilment in Human-Human Relationship

• Then
– we must behave according to these feelings
– it leads to fulfilment of both sides in the
relationship, i.e. it leads to mutual fulfilment.
– Evaluation is a natural process when we live in
relationships, we are constantly evaluating ours’
and the other’s feelings in the relationship.
– If evaluation leads to mutual happiness, then
justice is being done in fulfilling relationship.

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Functions of A Family:
• The family is a set of people and every one in
the family has a role to play. There are various
responsibilities or functions of a family:
1. Extension of Family
2. Children Care
3. Economy
4. Old Age Caring
5. Physical Protection
6. Cultural & Religious

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Cont’d
• Extension of Family:
The basic responsibility of a married couple is to
extend the family by way of reproduction.

Children Care:
The focus should be to provide a healthy
environment to kids to grow and proper
education to them to survive in this world.

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Cont’d

Economy:
• The Family Economy is a term we use to
describe products, goods, and services, mostly
produced in the home and where the workforce
consists of family members.
• Old Age Caring:
• The present generation is because of them. The
responsibility of their health, food, shelter and
other related activities lies on entire family.

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Cont’d
Physical Protection:
• Family works as a safeguard for each other family
member against any possible attack. A well
stitched family takes care of protection of all the
members.
Cultural and Religious:
• The family follows certain religious and cultural
activities.
• This is the responsibility of the head of the family to
teach moral, cultural and religious aspects to all other
members. This helps in creating a family heritage and
customs.
ROE 088/ Unit-2
• The problem with relations is that even if you
do not like you have to live with them. The
best way is to avoid any kind of disconnect
and establish dialogue. Solutions will bind to
come. Even if you will not be able to convince
at least you can save your family.

• Family harmony is the basic foundation on

which the entire structure of social
harmony is built.

ROE 088/ Unit-2
Types of relationship and their purpose:
• Family relationships.
• Our family, or relatives are people we are connected to through
some form of kinship, whether it is through blood (such as with
parents, brothers and sisters), marriage (such as non-blood
aunts and uncles or step-parents) romantic relationships (such
as a parent’s girlfriend or boyfriend) or adoption.
• one or more persons who share main residence, and

Types of relationship and their purpose:
• Friendships.
• Friends are people who we are not related to
but choose to interact with. Friends are
people we trust, respect, care about and feel
that we can confide in and want to spend time
with.

ROE 088/ Unit-2

Types of relationship and their purpose:
• Acquaintances.
• Acquaintances are people you may encounter
regularly, but who are not friends or relatives.
For example, they may be a neighbour who
lives in your road that you say “hello” to if you
see them in passing, or a work colleague or
someone you have seen a few times at a social
event but do not yet know well.
ROE 088/ Unit-2
Types of relationship and their purpose:
• Professional Relationship
• Though work can encompass friendships, family relationships, and
even romantic relationships, professional relationships generally refer
to more formal interactions that are focused on work tasks.
Importantly, they take place in the context of the work place, which
often has explicitly hierarchical relations of power.
• The level of formality in interactions varies depending on the nature of
the hierarchy in the company. For example, companies that have a
rigid hierarchy, where management holds a lot of power over
decision-making, tend to have more formal interactions.
• Formality also depends on position within a hierarchy. People at the
same level will have less formal interactions than those who occupy
different positions.

2. Bio order – trees, plants etc. = 4 Orders
3. Animal order – animals, birds etc.
Relationship of mutual
4. Human order – human beings fulfilment (harmony)

There is a relationship of mutual fulfilment (harmony) amongst these 4 orders.
The first 3 orders are mutually fulfilling for each other. They are fulfilling for
human being also. It is naturally acceptable to human beings to be fulfilling
for all the orders

The role of human being is to realize this mutual fulfilment – For this, all that
human beings need to do is:
1. To understand that mutual fulfilment (harmony) is inherent in nature – we
do not have to create it
2. To live accordingly – then the mutual fulfilment amongst the 4 orders will
be realised

and there is provision in nature for living with mutual fulfilment (harmony)
