5 PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

5.1 Pharmacodynamic properties

ALVOGYL is an antiseptic and analgesic paste used for the local treatment of
dry socket.
The butamben (butyl-paraminobenzoate) component provides a moderate
anaesthetic action which is effective for several hours after the paste has been
placed in the socket.
The iodoform ingredient has an effective anti-microbial action.
An analgesic action is provided by the eugenol component which has a
soothing effect on the alveolar tissues and contributes to their normal healing.
Introduced into the socket, ALVOGYL easily adheres to the alveolus due to its
fibrous consistency. Assisted by the patient’s tongue movements, it gradually
self eliminates without an intervention by the practitioner or the patient as the
normal healing of the wound takes place.
ALVOGYL is very easy to apply and requires no special attention from the
practitioner other than observation of the healing process.
