- Restaurant Patrons
- Presenter/Narrator

PRESENTER

Imagine this! You take your children for a lovely

meal, and whoops, that’s an extra $40 (DOLLAR SOUND)

(Background kids crying)

One can only pay or go to jail. Over one-fifth of

the American population has children.

Better be on your best behaviour, kids! This

restaurant charges $40 extra to ‘adults unable to
parent their children.

(More kids screaming)

Yup, you heard it! it's really true. Parents must be

able to keep their children well behaved, or face
the prospect of jail.

[Scene opens with Max and Emily sitting at a table,

looking restless. Max is tapping his fork, and Emily is
playing with her utensils.]

LISA

(smiling) Remember, kids, this is a fancy

restaurant. We have to be on our best behaviour.

MAX

(impatient) Mom, when do we get to order?

LISA
(firmly) Not yet, Max. We need to wait for the
waiter.

[Emily starts to sing softly, unaware that she's

disturbing other patrons.]

EMILY

(singing) La-la-la, I love singing!

[Lisa notices the disapproving looks from nearby diners.]

LISA

(whispering to Emily) Sweetie, maybe we should

save the singing for later.

[The waiter, James, approaches the table.]

WAITER

Good evening! What can I get for you tonight?

MAX

(excitedly) Can I have chicken tenders?

WAITER

Of course. And for you, ma'am?

LISA

I'll have the steak, please.

EMILY

(giggling) I want... spaghetti!

WAITER

(smiling) Spaghetti it is. I'll take your

orders.

[As the waiter leaves, Max starts playing with a salt

shaker, creating a mess.]
LISA

(concerned) Max, please put that down.

[Restaurant patrons start to murmur about the kids.]

PATRON 1

(whispering) These kids are being quite unruly.

PATRON 2

(whispering) I hope they settle down soon.

[Max and Emily start playing a game of "thumb war" on the

table.]

LISA

(exasperated) Kids, we're in a restaurant, not a

playground. We need to sit nicely.

[Their food arrives, and Emily refuses to eat her

spaghetti.]

EMILY

(whining) I don't like it! I want pizza!

LISA

(trying to be patient) We should've ordered

pizza if you wanted it, sweetie. You need to try
the spaghetti.

MAX

(pouting) This steak is too big! I can't eat it.

[The kids continue to fidget and push their food around.]

PATRON 3

(whispering) These kids are really testing my

patience.

[Max knocks over a glass of water.]

LISA

(concerned) Max, be careful!

[The waiter brings a replacement glass of water.]

WAITER

Here's a fresh glass for you.

[The kids continue to fidget and knock utensils off the

table.]

PATRON 4

(whispering) I can't enjoy my meal with these

kids causing a scene.

[Lisa tries to engage the kids in conversation.]

LISA

(smiling) How was school today, Max? Emily, did

you have fun in art class?

MAX

School was boring.

EMILY

(excited) Art class was fun, Mom! We painted

flowers!

[Lisa attempts to keep the kids entertained with

stories.]

LISA

(enthusiastic) How about I tell you a fun story?

Once upon a time, in a magical forest...

[The kids seem captivated by the story for a while.]

[After a long and trying meal, they order dessert.]

LISA
(relieved) Let's have the chocolate cake,
please.

WAITER

Certainly, I'll get that for you.

[The kids eagerly await their dessert.]

[The restaurant patrons can't help but smile as the kids

finally enjoy their dessert.]

[Scene continues with the family sharing dessert, and the

kids have learned valuable lessons about patience and
good behaviour.]

[As the kids finish dessert, Lisa decides to engage them

in a fun game.]

LISA

(enthusiastic) How about a game of "I Spy" to

pass the time? I'll start. I spy with my little
eye... something red!

MAX

(excited) Is it that lady's dress over there?

LISA

(smiling) That's right, Max! Now it's your turn,

Emily.

[The kids take turns playing "I Spy" with Lisa, which
keeps them occupied and well-behaved.]

[The scene transitions to the kids receiving a surprise

visit from a friendly magician who performs tricks at
their table, capturing their attention and making the
evening memorable for everyone.]

[The script ends with the family leaving the restaurant

with smiles on their faces, and the kids have learned the
importance of good behaviour in public places.]

[End of script.]
