Please remember, in T&T classes, you shouldn't wait for everybody to finish an activity

before moving on to the next. You can start checking an activity once half the students
have finished. Reassure the ones who haven't finished that it is ok - at Kids&Us we
keep a swift pace!

Strategies for Dealing with Fast Learners (T&T)

• Ask them to explain activities (if there are instructions in the book, they can
rephrase them) or games they have previously played.
• Any question from any student can be directed to them first (meaning, spelling,
grammar rules).
• If anything needs to be written on the board, make use of the fast learner. As long
as they have finished the current exercise.
• Start any oral activity by asking them first, as this type of activity will get easier the
more a structure is repeated.
• They can help their partner without giving answers straight away, just pointing out
mistakes and asking questions (just like the teacher does).

If all the above is not enough, you can give the student extra work. These are examples
of tasks a fast finisher could do:

o (Animal Planet) Write the description of an animal, to be read to the class for
the rest of students to guess (as a riddle)
o (Animal Planet) Depending on the Vocabulary Units we have worked on:
▪ Write a riddle for the class: a garment "you wear this on your... it's made
of...”, a type of food "you eat this for breakfast, it is sweet...”, a job "I spend the
day...”, etc.
▪ Write one item in a vocabulary category starting with each letter of the
alphabet. For example, if we have worked on Food: "Apple, Broccoli, Carrots,
Drinking chocolate, Eggs..."
o (Animal Planet) Write letters to Alex (the course character) telling her about:
▪ your daily life
▪ your home
▪ your family
▪ your hobbies
▪ your school
o AP2 Teacher Guide: PHC#44 A&B (Yes, you can!)

a.1 it can be used for AP1 and AP2 students.

a.2 it can be used for FT1 and FT2 students by making it a bit more difficult:
instead of asking for words, the teacher can ask for sentences that contain this
specific word.

o T&T Guides: Crosswords. They can be adapted and different versions can be
made with vocabulary being worked in class at that moment. By preparing 3 or
4 crosswords at the beginning of each term would be enough. You can find
crosswords creators on the internet as for example:
https://www.education.com/worksheet-generator/reading/crossword-
puzzle/; https://crosswordlabs.com/
o Irregular verbs (AP1-FT2): make different versions of PHC#43.

o Writing tasks (FT2-T6): Give them a white sheet and tell them to write about
something. Depending on the text typology being worked on that specific
course, children will have to write one type of text or another. For example, a
short informal letter in Teens 1.
