Windcube Lidar Maintenance instruction – client information

V02 – March 2021

1 Introduction
This instruction has been written to assist clients maintain the windcube v2.1 lidar. Basic
maintenance is required to keep the lidars running at peak performance. This maintenance
is not difficult to perform. What is generally more difficult is gaining access to lidar’s which
are often in remote locations. Therefore, this maintenance is the responsibility of the client,
as they are better placed than ART to arrange maintenance with local landholders,
stakeholders, or other relevant service providers frequenting the proposed development
site.

2 Routine maintenance required by client

The information below has been taken from the Windcube v2.1 user guide.

Perform the following care on a regular basis:

1 – Check Window
This relates to window cleaning. Recommended interval is once per month:
• If necessary, clean Windcube window with water or isopropanol (isopropyl rubbing
alcohol) and optical tissues.

2 – Fill Container

This relates to Wiper liquid tank refilling. Recommended interval depends on climate and
location. As a guide, filling once per two months is recommended. If you are leasing a lidar
and power trailer from ART, then the trailer will most likely have 2 x 20L water containers
on board:
• Fill the active 20L container (one that has the Windcube submersible pump in it)

from the non-active 20L container. Refill the non-active 20L container ready for the
next refill. Use clean town water or tank water. Do not use ground water of any kind.
• Isopropanol (isopropyl rubbing alcohol) should be added to the mixture if
temperatures below zero°C are expected (30% if < 10°C, 15% if <0°C).

Note that hard water may affect measurements by leaving a lime scale deposit on the
window. ART recommends that you use soft water (mineral concentration under 60mg/L)
and the client is responsible for damages due to (hard) water quality.

ART also recommends the following windshield wiper fluids:

• The product “Sonax Xtreme Antifreeze” – see www.sonax.com
• The product “Rain-X 2-in-1” – see www.rainx.com
• The product “PEAK Windshield Wash” – see www.peakauto.com

If using wiper fluids, always follow the manufacturers instructions to determine the amount
of wiper fluid to use for 20L of water.

3 – Change Wiper Blade – if needed

The rubber on the wiper arm is perishable. In harsh conditions it will perish faster than in
milder conditions. Recommended change interval is each 6 months, but please assess on a
case by case basis and replace as required. Spare wiper arms (usually 3) are provided by ART
and will be within the trailer:
• Lift the wiper arm
• Remove the wiper blade, pulling it away from the middle – any OLD wiper blades are
to kept and returned to ART
• Clip the new blade back in the same orientation, pushing it from the middle
• Replace the arm on the lidar window

4 – Check fan filter state

• Open the air input fan, located on the Windcube door without trapdoor
• Check the fan filter cleanliness. If required, replace the filter
• Close the fan vent

Note there is only one fan filter – on the back

door. There is another vent on the front door,
however this does not have a filter, and should
not have one applied. Only the air entering the
lidar through the input fan needs to be filtered.
