Locate a program in your community serving one of the societal problems you identified in

the unit 9 discussion.

Among the identified societal problems was that of gender inequality. Being among the

most common and perhaps the most widespread of all societal problems, these issue calls for

immediate rectification. With this in mind, numerous programs have been implemented in most

communities to help fight the issue of gender inequality and bring about gender balance. An

example of search a program implemented in my local community is the Association for

Women’s Rights in Development often referred to as AWID. AWID is an international

programme with branches all across the country working to achieve gender equality and

women’s human rights all around the world. The program’s vision entails creating a world where

feminist realities can flourish, where power and resources are distributes in ways that include

everyone and enable all genders succeed and realize their full potential with respect, love and

dignity. The program targets women residing in the poorest households and combines financial

services with skills-building sessions and training on intimate partner violence, communication,

cultural beliefs, gender norms and HIV prevention. The programme also encourages wider

community participation to engage both men and women. It targets to improve the women and

girls’ employment opportunities, increase their power and influence in home decisions and

strengthen their social networks.

in which we as Human Service Professional provide service

Running Head: A CHANGING SOCIAL SERVICE SYSTEM 3

The delivery of human services by human service professionals have been dramatically

impacted, and, in some cases, threatened by significant societal and family changes. Some of the

notable societal and family changes have led to an increased demand for services, heightened

competition among agencies for resources and implementation of significant legislative

initiatives. The field of human service is a widely defined one, uniquely approaching the goal of

meeting human wants and need via an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention

and remediation of family problems and maintaining a commitment to improving the quality of

life of various families. In order to achieve this objective, human service professions need to take

into consideration the various family structures they are dealing with to provide appropriate

alternatives. They need to conduct investigations about family relations before determine the

appropriate interventions for their clients.

On the other hand, informed consent is an important legal and ethical responsibility for

all social workers as well as other professionals, and human service literature reinforces the

significance of obtaining a good or valid consent with clients. Given its significance, human

service professional need to be more knowledgeable of the issues surrounding who may or may

not consent for treatment so as to be able to help families more appropriately. It is impossible for

a human professional to make a decision involving who is to give consent of a case involving a

family member’s treatment if he/she is unaware of the legal requirements surrounding consent

for treatment. Unlike other types of consent, consenting for treatment is quite complex and

requires the human professional to have sufficient knowledge on the issue before deciding to

delegate over cases involving search.
