Reading Report #1

Section I

The Human Resource workplace has changed over the past decade. It is now a more

individual and employee focused environment. One of the biggest changes that we see today, is

the advancement of technology and the use of social media. Social media can be harmful in

many ways, especially in the workplace, but it can also be very beneficial. Social media and

technology are the main sources of communicating and information today.

Another aspect that has shifted over the past decade is employee reviews. In the past,

employee performance reviews were heavily relied on for company feedback. Today, it is more

about the employees’ impact now, in the future, and what they have learned. It is now less about

competition between employees, and more about teamwork and team success.

In conclusion, the workplace has changed very much over the past decade. What once

was a company success-focused workplace, is now turning more into an individual success

workplace. The employees are valued more now than they have been before. Human Resource

Management is going to be a constantly changing environment. Finding the right team of

employees who fit the company best is going to impact everything.

Section II

There were a few things in this article that surprised me, but most of it was familiar

information to me. I have a part time job outside of college, and I have been at this company for
close to two years, working 25-35 hours a week usually. Even in the short time I have been with

this company, I have seen many things change. In this time, the company has changed many

aspects and regulations that benefit the employee. One of the main things was paid maternity and

paternity leave changing from 4 weeks to 10 weeks. Although this change doesn’t affect me right

now, I love to see these changes happening that benefit the individuals in the company. Human

Resource managers have a tough job at recruiting and staffing and taking care of the employees.

The changes that have happened have been very significant and I am excited to see the changes

that happen in the next decade while I am entering into my career in the workforce.
